The Patriots and Seahawks finished with two of top four scoring defenses in the league last season, with Seattle at the top and Patriots fourth, allowing 18.8 points per game. The champs also finished as No. 1 in DVOA defensive rankings per FTN. While the Patriots were second in the NFL in scoring last year (28.8 PPG), they did not face a single defense that finished in the top 12 of points allowed. In the postseason, all four defenses they faced (Broncos, Texans, Seahawks, Chargers) were top-10 defenses, and the Patriots were held to 16.8 PPG and 248.0 total yards per game. The last 8 NFL Kickoff games have averaged a total of 41.3 points, with only three of the 16 teams reaching 30+ points.
Backing the Seahawks to win here at just under 62%, as I have this closer to 64.5%, or about -182. There’s been a lot of talk about Seattle losing Kenneth Walker and playing without Zach Charbonnet, but I like Jadarian Price on the ground, and George Holani gives them a solid option in the passing game. This number is a little short for Seattle at home.
Do I think the Pats are good? Sure, but are you aware by one metric they had the NFL's easiest schedule last year this century? And they got punked in the Super Bowl by Seattle. The reigning SB champs usually win this Kickoff Game -- and the Hawks can tie a franchise record with their 11th straight win overall. No Tre'Veyon Henderson takes away one home-run threat for New England. Kept holding out for a stray -2.5 with Seattle safety Nick Emmanwori ruled out officially, but no dice.

The New England Patriots have two new wide receivers making their debuts tonight in AJ Brown and Romeo Doubs. For a young quarterback like Drake Maye that struggled in the playoffs and Super Bowl, at times he is going to lean on the weapons he had a year ago. Mack Hollins did shine in the Super Bowl against the Seahawks, and so did DeMario Douglas. Douglas had five catches for forty five yards. The yards were the most he had in the Patriots last twelve games, and the five catches were a season high. Looking for one standard catch, and a couple in a pre half two minute drill. Play Douglas over on his receiving yards.

DraftKings. I’m going to put myself through the agony of relying on a backup tight-end. Elijah Arroyo showed flashes as a rookie with 15 catches for 179 yards. At 11.9 per reception, the downfield threat had an average depth of target of 9.0 yards last season. With new OC, and a former tight-ends coach, Brian Fleury calling the plays, the Seahawks are poised to run more 12 personnel. The Patriots were not particularly strong against tight-ends last year, ranking 15th in FTN’s DVOA metric. Fourth receiver Tory Horton is questionable to suit up, and the jury will be out on the run game - I like Arroyo to get at least two targets, which is all we need. I project him at 11 yards.
The most substantial changes since the Seahawks and Patriots met in Super Bowl LX should benefit New England, which added A.J. Brown as Seattle lost bell-cow back Kenneth Walker III. But the Seahawks’ dominance of the Patriots was not solely predicated on roster; rather, Seattle had a decisive schematic advantage, and it’s tough to see that changing in 2026. The Pats were relatively lucky to win the AFC war of attrition, and while hype has reached a fever pitch for Drake Maye, the Seahawks offer a tough Week 1 matchup. Jadarian Price should be a fine replacement behind a strong offensive line, and the defensive front seven should cause problems for the visitors. The line finally reached the right number and price, so let’s go.

DeMario Douglas caught five of seven targets for 45 yards in the Super Bowl loss to the Seahawks. Stefon Diggs is gone, so Douglas should be the primary slot receiver. That's an important role against a Seahawks defense that could be missing Nick Emmanwori (ankle). With Seattle focused on slowing down A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs on the outside, look for Douglas to notch at least 20 receiving yards.

Seattle certainly made a big investment in Jadarian Price, but I question how much he will be untilized in his first NFL game. Price did not play at all in the preseason, and while he will be the clear starter tonight, I think the experience of George Holani and Emanuel Wilson will be leaned upon just enough to limit Price's carries. This is also a great Patriot run defense and the Patriot offense may do a better job keeping possession, all of which could limit the work on the other side of the ball for Jadarian Price.
Defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks still looks like a juggernaut in the NFL this season. Rarely do you see a team that won the Super Bowl retain a good amount of their key contributors from that team. While the Patriots have vastly upgraded at WR and have strengthened the offensive line, I still believe the Seahawks still own a slight edge in this game and why the line is only at three points.

Seahawks first-round pick Jadarian Price didn't play a preseason snap, but that was to preserve him for games like this. He'll make his NFL debut against a Patriots' run defense that lost nose tackle Khyiris Tonga to the Chiefs and proved vulnerable to zone rushing schemes last season. Seattle returns its entire offensive line. While George Holani is expected to mix in on passing downs, Price showed excellent receiving skills in the Seahawks' joint practice with the Titans, catching multiple passes. Sam Darnold called him "a special palyer." Price averaged 10.8 yards per reception at Notre Dame, though he wasn't targeted much, along with 6.0 yards per carry. Look for Price to be heavily involved Wednesday.
Let me get this straight: we had the Seahawks favored by 5.5 on a neutral field in the Super Bowl. The Patriots lose by 16, and the first game of the following season they're playing on Seattle's home field, and the spread is only 3.5? Are the Patriots suddenly better? Did the Seahawks lose some mojo during the offseason? We're saying that if the Super Bowl were played again today on a neutral field that the game would be pick 'em when taking out Seattle’s home-field advantage. Seattle, under the current format with home-field advantage, should be closer to -8.5. That's my thinking; I'll take Seattle to win.
Evidently, the record-setting extension signed by Patriots CB Christian Gonzalez was enough to push the Patriots steam down to this key number, and we’ll bite on the defending Super Bowl champs at this reduced price from an opener of -4.5. Although the Seahawks qualify as a proverbial regression candidate and have some questions in their backfield and secondary, this is still an ascending club that won a Super Bowl while most of their key players are in their primes. We expect Seattle’s defensive line to give Drake Maye trouble just as it did in February, and the 12th man of crowd support will also be a factor. In short, this line suggests a pick’em on a neutral field, which feels disrespectful to the champs.

Jadarian Price is a difference maker and offers tremendous upside and big play potential. However what Jadarian Price isn't ready to do just yet is be an every down back tasked with pass protection among other responsibilities. Here comes George Holani who has been in the system already and is more than comfortable as a blocker/pass catcher on late downs. Seattle is thin at a lot of spots (RB included) and can see a scenario where Holani's pass catching abilities are leaned into early in the opener making this number rather short given the current state of the roster. I show value in this prop up to -80 so this creates a nice upside opportunity.
The first football game in seven months is a rematch of the last one, where the Seahawks destroyed the Patriots in the Super Bowl. The line for that game on a neutral field was Seahawks -5 and proved to be well short of where it should've been. The opener is now Seahawks -3 in Seattle, so why the massive adjustment? A new left guard doesn't completely fix the Pats' O-line issues, the fatal flaw in that game. A.J. Brown isn't worth 3+ points. Nick Emmanwori may not play, but again, is that enough to make up this huge line swing? I waited all summer hoping I'd be able to play a -3, and finally it's happened.

The Patriot preference is to run the ball when possible, but this is a matchup that may force Maye into more passing volume. The Seahawks defense is strong at all levels, but their biggest questions are in a partially revamped secondary (which also has some injury concerns). Whether the game script is trailing or neutral, I think Maye will look to move the ball through the air. His efficiency in doing so is a different matter, which is why I'm choosing the attempts over the completions. This number is at Fanduel. If 32.5 is the only option at your book, I'd actually switch over to taking the over 19.5 Completions.

Drake Maye nearly won the MVP award last season, but he still threw an interception in nearly half his games against an easy schedule. Then the playoffs hit, and four matchups against tough defenses, and the only one that didn't feature a Maye pick was the snowstorm in Denver. The Seahawks got him twice in the Super Bowl and return one of the best defenses in the league, so I like the chances for another pick here. I'd play this up to -140.
A Super Bowl rematch kicks off the season, and I see the Under as the best angle in the game. The Pats offense had no answer for Seattle's defense in February, punting on eight straight drives to open the game and turning the ball over on three of their next four drives. Will the O-line be that much better? The Seahawks lost talented OC Klint Kubiak and have questions about the rushing attack, so they might not be able to run up the score in the same way this time around. This one might struggle to get to 40 points.

I like this spot for AJ Barner who looks like an ascending player for the defending champion Seattle Seahawks. Barner had a strong rookie season and was a reliable target for Sam Darnold. He dealt with numerous injuries which were addressed in the offseason. New Seahawks OC Brian Fleury, who served as the TE coach in San Francisco for the last four seasons, figures to feature the position more. There is minimal target competition after JSN. The Patriots did give up above average production to opposing Tight Ends last season.

In the Super Bowl, Seahawks tight end A.J. Barner caught four passes for 54 yards and a touchdown as New England's secondary successfully shut down Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Look for a similar outcome in Week 1, with Christian Gonzalez and New England's defense scheming to slow the Seahawks' star wide receiver. That should leave Barner some room to operate in the intermediate area of the field. He was over this line in 7 of the Seahawks' last 11 games in 2025-26 and should be able to once again find success on Wednesday night in the 2026-27 opener.
