Aubrey made three of his four field-goal attempts and all three PATs in the Cowboys' 33-30 overtime loss to the Cardinals.
Terry McLaurin was one of many wide receivers that had a disastrous week one, as he had just fourteen receiving yards. The offense and passing attack just did not get going for the first three quarters, and the little that it did was through Stefon Diggs. Throughout his career McLaurin has been dependable against the Dallas Cowboys. He has cleared today’s yardage prop in five out of his last six matchups against Dallas. This prop may lack the typical big plays we see from McLaurin, but volume catches gets us there. Play his yardage over.
It takes a lot for me to go against the Cowboys at home – even with the disastrous shade issue – but they thrive indoors and have enough weapons that the Commanders should struggle to keep up. Dallas has won four of five against Washington, and everyone in the locker room knows a 0-2 start will only create more chaos in the system. Not sure how CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens can be slowed down, especially with their complementary run game. Despite being led by Dan Quinn, the Commanders do not present as hard-nosed and tough as the Giants. This should be a get-right game for the Cowboys as the line keeps rising despite money coming in for the visitors.
DraftKings. One of the surprises of Week 1 for me was to see Jayden Daniels with only five rush attempts (two by design), as compared to his inefficient 34 pass attempts. While the Eagles might have done a solid job in containing the dynamic quarterback to the pocket, I see the Commanders looking to get Daniels going on the ground. The Cowboys have historically struggled with mobile quarterbacks, and it showed in Week 1. Jaxson Dart ran for 54 yards, and the added dimension of his legs clearly had the Cowboys linebackers flummoxed for most of the game. In what should be a fast-paced game, I have Daniels projected at about 43 rush yards, and I’d bet this to over 39.5.
One of the toughest spots for an NFL team to start the year is playing back to back road games. The Washington Commanders are the only team in football that are doing so with consecutive divisional road games. Jayden Daniels stats weren’t pretty week one, but he showed the closing fourth quarter ability he had his rookie year. The Commanders scored thirteen points and were a two point conversion away from tying. Expect a cleaner performance, and for the Commanders defensively to be fired up after giving up a season high forty four points to the Cowboys in Dallas last season. Take Washington.
Dak Prescott and the Cowboys' offense got off to a rocky start in Week 1. But they have just the matchup to get right in Week 2. Dak Prescott has consistently had Washington's number and had big games against them last year (with the same weapons vs. the same defensive scheme). While I don't mind targeting Prescott's passing yards (over), in case the game gets out of hand, I like betting on a bounce-back in explosive, downfield passes. That is a calling card of this offense. And he had long passes of 74 and 86 yards against Washington last year. I like him to soar over his longest pass this week too.
The Cowboys have covered five of the last six meetings against Washington. Dak Prescott is 7-0 in his last seven meetings against Washington in Dallas, and he's been flawless as a passer, with 20 touchdown passes and no picks. Dallas was on the road last week against a fired-up Giants squad, and we didn't get to really see the Dallas passing game shine. I think they showed who they are against Washington, who lost to a Philadelphia squad last week that had only 10 first downs. Cowboys at home get the cover.
Dallas should send a thank-you note to the Eagles, who essentially wrote last Sunday the Cowboys' game plan here: (1.) On defense, apply pressure to QB Jayden Daniels, which he felt on fully half of his dropbacks in a shaky outing; (2) On offense, go for chunk plays, which the Commanders allowed in bunches. WRs George Pickens and CeeDee Lamb are licking their chops. (Lamb chops; get it?) Can’t fathom the Cowboys sinking to 0-2 not since owner Jerry Jones was a whippersnapper in 2010. They should settle down after being thrown a loop by new/old Giants coach John Harbaugh.
There were a couple things working against the Cowboys in Week 1 which are unlikely to be an issue in Week 2: (1) the offense couldn't get onto the field and (2) drops. George Pickens was a guilty party with the drops (he also drew a big PI) and I see a nice bounce back here against a terrible Commander secondary. Dak is slated for over 260 yards passing, and I expect Pickens to get his fair share (has aboout a 25% target share with Lamb on the field). Look for the Commander defense to stay aggressive and for Dak to hit some deep shots to both of his favorite targets.
Efficiency was not a strength for Jayden Daniels in Week 1 until he was forced into pass mode in the 4th quarter (9 for 11 with 2 TD passes). Pass mode may come earlier in this game thanks to a prolific Dallas offense. The Dallas defense is far from prolific and should allow JD5 to hit the short and medium area with the likes of Diggs, McLaurin and Antonio Williams. This is a pretty low number for a likely negative game script, but I like this play regardless of game script.
In the last two seasons, Brandon Aubrey’s kicking points vs. Washington are as follows: 9-13-14-12. He's had 15 combined field goal attempts in those four games against Dan Quinn’s teams. It was truly bizarre to see Dallas' kicker so quiet in Week 1 after he attempted 89 field goals over the last two seasons. I'm expecting a Dallas offensive explosion in their home opener and Aubrey to have plenty of work vs. Washington once again.
Locking in Dallas -3.5 on FanDuel right now. This line should be -4.5 and almost certainly closes -4 or greater. The Giants were ready to play in the opener after significant time to prepare. The Cowboys are interesting, as I have a significant gap in my rating on this team at home indoors vs. outdoor games. The comfortable conditions indoors are favorable offensively for the passing and kicking games, which are legitimate weapons, especially in this matchup with the Commanders. Give the Giants a lot of credit for their performance in the season opener. I expect a much better defensive effort from Dallas in the home opener.
