Little will relish kicking in Denver's high altitude. The master of the long-distance field goal -- he has nailed 13 of 16 in a blossoming NFL career from 50-plus -- can connect from the Jaguars' side of the field at Mile High. He drilled a 72-yarder during pre-game warmups here last year. Jax never hesitates to call on Little, who has missed just six times in 65 tries. The stout Broncos defense that can limit the Jags' TDs should provide multiple opportunities for threes.
We're not sold on the popular narrative that the Broncos are in a prime bounce-back spot following their Week 1 blowout loss at KC. While we expect an improved defensive effort, the offense still has a lot of work to do. Moreover, the Jags went into Denver last year and posted a 34-20 Week 16 victory in a crucial matchup for both clubs. Jacksonville is the more polished club at the moment and a value as an underdog.
Denver's offensive line gets all sorts of accolades and is widely lauded as one of the best in the game but when they step up in class it often leaves a lot to be desired. Denver runs into an underrated run defense this week against Jacksonville and may need a bounce back passing game from Bo Nix to have success. What does this mean for Dobbins? I think his touches are limited and the totes he gets won't be that effective in this spot leading to a good under opportunity for us.
Jacksonville has been red-hot, going back to last season - when they beat Denver at Mile High by the way, so there is some revenge here for the Broncos too. The Jags cruised easily past an awful Browns team last week and Denver got it handed to them by Kansas City. Denver is especially good at home in altitude and I expect a big bounce back here after being embarrassed on Monday Night. This team has too much talent to not be competitive for a second straight week and I don't expect they start 0-2. Give me the horses at home laying less than 3.
I was encouraged by both Bhayshal Tuten’s Week 1 usage and his performance. I also think this is a good matchup. Not only did the Denver defense get absolutely torched by KC’s rushing attack, finishing dead last in EPA allowed per rush, but the Broncos run defense was cratering last season down the stretch as well. Meanwhile Liam Cohen has been effusive in his praise of Tuten throughout the week. Tuten was very elusive and the underlying metrics paint a bright picture. I expect Tuten to carry the load in what shapes up as a good matchup.
The Jaguars had the top rush defense in the NFL last year, holding teams to 85.6 yards per game. Last week, Judkins only had 33 yards, getting us the win in his prop. I faded RBs on a weekly basis against them and with the way the Broncos looked last week vs. KC (61 total rush yards), I am going right back to the well. Dobbins had 36 yards last week and 17 was on one carry. He had 19 yards on his other 7 carries.
Jacksonville is coming off a dominant offensive performance, the team's ninth straight regular-season win. These same Jaguars put up 34 points in their win in Denver last season. That was the only regular-season home game the Broncos lost. Denver missed a ton of tackles in its Monday night loss in Kansas City. Those can be corrected, given the Broncos' elite personnel. Sean Payton is excellent coming off a loss. And with a rest disadvantage during his Broncos' tenure, Payton is 8-3 ATS, winning those games on average by a touchdown. Look for Denver to bounce back at home and avenge last season's home loss.
Here’s a prop with a 100% regular season hit rate dating back to 2025. Since he came to Jacksonville last November, Meyers has posted 39 or more yards in all ten regular season games. Last week's 2-40 line continued the streak. Against the Broncos last December, Meyers posted a 4-45 line on eight targets. I expect Jacksonville to be down in the fourth quarter and throwing so game script should be in our favor. A similar line to last year's performance should be in order for the Jaguars' #3 wide receiver.
The Broncos offense had an awful day against the Chiefs in the opener, and while this seems like a bounceback spot, we may have learned something about the pecking order at receiver. Jaylen Waddle had only three targets, and that'll surely go up after the investment made to bring him aboard in the offseason. But it was Pat Bryant dominating the work at receiver, catching four of six targets for 42 yards, while Sutton caught two of five targets for 11 yards. Buzz around Denver camp was that Bryant was in line for a breakout season, and there just aren't enough passes to go around to get Sutton to 40 yards consistently if that's the case.
I really liked the Broncos and Chargers entering the season, but both laid an egg in Week 1. Denver didn't match Kansas City's intensity in Patrick Mahomes' return from a knee injury. But what really stood out was that the Broncos' defense missed the most tackles in a game since 2018. That issue will get fixed. Denver's defense is too talented to play that way moving forward. Bo Nix looked dreadful, but we all know you can't overreact to one game in the NFL. I thought Jacksonville was a bit undervalued entering the season, although I don't believe this line should be below three. I still expect the Broncos to be tough at home and think they'll rebound on Sunday.
The Broncos were scheduled for the final game of Week 1, so we don't know how they'll look as of this writing. However, I have enough confidence in this team that I want to lay the -2.5 while it's available. The No. 1 seed last year got better in the offseason with the acquisition of Jaylen Waddle, and while the Jaguars defense looked great in their opener, it was against an awful Browns defense. If the expected regression from last year comes this week, the Broncos could run away with this game. Teams often struggle to play at altitude in Denver early in the year as well. I have this at -4 per power ratings and would still lean Denver at that number.
