Bettors clearly don't think he will, as they are all over the Vikings at Caesars Sportsbook. The spread has dropped from an open of Buffalo -8.5 to -3.5.
As of this writing, 87.7% of money on the spread at the book is on Minnesota, as are 74.5% of the tickets. The Vikings were +320 on the moneyline but are now +152. A whopping 99% of the money and 89.9% of the tickets are on the Vikings. The total has dropped from an open of 48.5 to 43.5 with 89% of the money and 75.3% of the tickets on the Under.
ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported Monday that Allen is dealing with a right elbow injury, specifically to his ulnar collateral ligament and related nerves, but the Bills have been quiet on Allen's official issue. He didn't practice Wednesday and is officially being called day-to-day.
"We'll see," Coach Sean McDermott said when asked if Allen would play Sunday. "We will see how he does. We use common sense and, obviously, we factor a lot of things in, a medical report being one of them and our doctor's wisdom and knowledge." When asked if Allen had attempted to throw a football since Sunday, McDermott didn't answer. Allen was in a similar situation as a rookie during the 2018 season and missed four games.
Allen reportedly has expressed confidence to his teammates that he can play, but what else would he say? McDermott might not let him as the Bills have their best chance to win a Super Bowl in many years and it may not be worth one victory to risk a long-term injury to Allen. The Bills do currently have the No. 1 seed and home field advantage in the AFC playoff race heading into Week 10.
Veteran backup Case Keenum would start if Allen can't. He started 14 games for the Vikings back in 2017 and helped the club to a division title and spot in the NFC title game. Keenum is 29-35 in his regular-season career as a starter and started two games last year for Cleveland, winning both.
