There’s a lot of belief in the Giants this year given its electric youngsters are entering Year 2 with John Harbaugh taking the helm. Meanwhile, everyone seems down on the Cowboys despite Dallas undergoing what might be a significant defensive upgrade. Given the manner in which the Cowboys can pile up points, even an average D would seriously raise their championship hopes. In his last two complete games against the Giants, Dak Prescott has piled up 582 yards and 4 TD with only one INT. Meanwhile, Jaxon Dart is in Game 1 under … Matt Nagy. Road favorites are tough to support, especially in Week 1, but I’d rather side with Dallas on Sunday night.
The Cowboys give plenty of reasons to bet them against the Giants, such as being 16-2 in the last 18 meetings. You've also got the Giants saddled with a 3-17 record in their last 20 prime time games, and this is the first Sunday night game of the season. But the positives with the Giants are that they’re not the old Giants. They've got John Harbaugh as their new head coach, and he's all business. The Giants haven't had a no-nonsense head coach since Tom Coughlin. Jaxson Dart starts his second year, and as a rookie, he showed he’s got moxie. In his last start of the season last year, he beat the Cowboys, throwing two touchdowns and no picks. Giants to win.
Full-circle moment tonight. Odell Beckham Jr. returns to the Giants, with the blonde hair and number 13. His first game back, against Dallas, Sunday night, on Primetime where he made his iconic one-handed catch. Even with Malik Nabers now a game-time decision, OBJ proved in camp and the preseason, he’s still got the speed to get open. This sets up all too well for him to snag at least two catches.
Malik Nabers status is still up in the air as the powers above will let his body know according to him. Isaiah Likely was Jaxson Dart’s favorite target this summer and should be their main red zone threat through the air. New York’s wide receivers room isn’t great and lacks depth, so Dart will be looking Likely’s way if no one else can get open.
DraftKings. The Giants made Isaiah Likely one of the top first signings off the free agent market this offseason, quickly reuniting the tight end with John Harbaugh. Getting his first chance at TE1 duties, word out of camp is that Likely is a focal point of the offense. And I do think the Giants perceived lack of depth at wide receiver is because of how much Likely will be used out of the slot. Malik Nabers availability hangs over this one, but I do like this whether he suits up or not. The Giants are likely in a neutral or negative gamescript throughout, in what’s poised to be high scoring affair. I like this to -130.
Jaxson Dart completed 63% of his passes last season for 15 touchdowns and five interceptions in his 14 games, but where he gained his most notoriety was as a QB running for 487 yards and 9 TDs. Sunday night, New York will be the game of the day against the hated Dallas Cowboys, with the biggest spotlight available. Dart loves the spotlight. I think Dart's going to take advantage of all the cameras and use the media to further enhance his brand and make himself the story. He's a flashy guy, and he plays that way. Dart scores a touchdown on the ground.
You didn't think I forgot about my favorite NFL running back Cam Skattebo, did you? He starts his comeback story on Sunday Night Football vs the Cowboys. The summer was full of some FUD on Skattebo, but ultimately it's clear that he is the Giants' RB1. He shared quotes about John Harbaugh wanting to feed him ball 20 times a game. So we have volume and talent for this play. Honestly, I'll probably bet Skattebo's ATD and receiving line too. But I like over rush + receiving because it protects the game script and just leans into his projected volume. He went over this combination line five of the six full games he played last year.
A new era begins in New York with John Harbaugh running the show, but it makes sense why this line was bet up to 3 with the excitement around the Cowboys. However, at that number, I feel like we have to have value on a Giants offense that should be able to score points against a unit that, while seemingly improved, was terrible last season. I'm not ready to make the Cowboys three points better on a neutral field, so they're a fade on the road here.
