Mays (wrist) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Cardinals.
Bartch (foot) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against Arizona.
Ya-Sin (hamstring) has been ruled out ahead of Sunday's game against the Cardinals.
Branch (Achilles) has been ruled out ahead of Sunday's game against the Cardinals.
The Lions designated Mays (wrist) for return from injured reserve Wednesday, Richard Silva of The Detroit News reports.
Branch (Achilles) had his 21-day practice window opened by the Lions on Sunday, Richard Silva of The Detroit News reports.
The Panthers are hopeful that Coker (quadriceps) will be ready to return to action following their Week 5 bye, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
Evans recorded 11 total tackles (nine solo) and a pass defensed during Sunday night's 32-26 win over the Lions.
Lloyd recorded nine total tackles (five solo) during Sunday night's 32-26 win against Detroit.
Campbell recorded 14 tackles (six solo) during Sunday's 32-26 loss at Carolina.
The Panthers have legitimately raised their floor, but the Lions are an offensive matchup they simply have not faced – though they got a taste of it in a 22-point loss to Ben Johnson in Week 1. With both starting CBs out, Carolina will have a helluva time trying to stop Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams, let alone Jahmyr Gibbs out of the backfield. Detroit’s defense leaves a lot to be desired, but it showed signs of improvement last week. It’s just tough to see how the Lions don’t pile up points in this one, even outdoors at night in primetime. Jump on now because this line should hit 4 or higher.
DraftKings. In his two games in Carolina, Devin Lloyd has made his presence felt. The linebacker has registered 22 total combined tackles across his two games, easily leading the Panthers in that stretch. While he did miss last game, he’s off the injury report tonight. He should be directly involved in (trying) to stop Jahmyr Gibbs in both the run and pass game tonight. In what should be a fast paced game - I like Lloyd to show out tonight at home.
It's an unfortunate situation for the Panthers in this ball game. They not only lost the game vs the Browns last week, but lost some key contributors on defense in the secondary. That's not the position you want to be thin in facing the Lions passing attack.
FanDuel. With Jalen Coker unlikely to play tonight, the Panthers will be devoid out wide. Enter Darren Waller, who saw his snap share bump to 67% on pass plays last week. The tight end led the Panthers in targets (8) while registering 51 receiving yards. Facing the Lions, Waller has a fantastic matchup against a defense that’s allowed 117 receiving yards per game to opposing tight ends - the highest mark in the NFL by a wide margin. Down three safeties due to injury, Waller is a tough matchup for the Lions lining up mostly out of the slot. Rain is expected in Charlotte Sunday Night, but it doesn’t seem that it’ll prohibitive to the passing game. I’d bet this up to over 34.5 yards.
It’s still early, but Detroit hasn’t gotten much consistent production outside of Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jahmyr Gibbs. Gibbs has been the engine, averaging more than 150 rushing and receiving yards per game while contributing in both phases. That gives him multiple paths to clear this number. He could get there with 120-plus rushing yards and a few catches, or have a monster day through the air. Carolina is missing pieces in the secondary, and I’m still not sold on this Panthers run defense. Detroit should continue feeding Gibbs, rain or shine it runs through Gibbs.
Do you remember what the Jets tight ends did to the Lions in Week 3? Well, it's a pattern so far this season and the Lions are a tight end funnel. Juwan Johnson, Dalton Kincaid, Dawson Knox, Kenyon Sadiq, and Jeremy Rucket all have touchdowns from the tight end position through three weeks against the Lions. I'm excited to get this price for Darren Waller to score, who already has two touchdowns (Week 2 vs Falcons) this season.
Darren Waller played over half of the offensive snaps in Week 3 and turned 8 targets into 5 receptions for 51 yards. Coming off his biggest snap share of the season, he’ll face a Lions pass defense that has been brutal ranking 30th in EPA allowed per play and have given up a whopping 979 passing yards through three games. Detroit has been especially generous to opposing Tight Ends allowing 351 yards to the position, which is 50 yards more than the Bengals who have allowed the second most. Jalen Coker is also Questionable, while Xavier Legette is not expected to suit up. This game is likely to feature a ton of passing volume and Waller is a cheap piece in a likely shootout.
The Lions have had injury concerns all year in the secondary and on the offensive line, but now that's true about the Panthers as well with their top two corners and best O-lineman out. Right tackle Monroe Freeling is also in the concussion protocol, while Jalen Coker is among the other players managing injuries. The Lions O-line got back multiple starters last week, and I thought their defense played better than expected against the Jets. Detroit is 7-1 ATS outdoors when favored since 2023, and Carolina's injuries give them a great chance to get the cover here as well.
