Small sample size but both team are near the bottom of the league in tempo. The forecast is New York may get some rain throughout the game.
If Matt LaFleur cannot get Green Bay up after it imploded in the fourth quarter against Minnesota, he may be out of a job sooner than later. The cross-country journey is certainly tough, but the Packers are not haphazardly entering this game as road favorites. Excuse me for not buying into a team that beat up on the Titans. Yes, improvement was shown, but the offense did not flash enough for me to believe Jordan Love will not get his with Christian Watson and Matthew Golden. Unless this is a remarkably low-scoring game, the Pack get one back in New York.
DraftKings. I want to buy into Kenyon Sadiq on this low line. The first round rookie, who missed virtually all of training camp and preseason, recorded three catches for 21 yards (and a rushing touchdown) on limited snaps in Week 1, coming off just one week of practice. Now moving to Week 2, it makes sense for the Jets to increase the snap count for Sadiq. When the dynamic tight end was in last week, the Jets scripted plays for him - I expect more of the same this week. The Packers should be an exploitable matchup - they just allowed 58 yards to an uninspiring Vikings tight-end group. This one is highly variable, but I’d bet it to over 21.5 yards.
These two teams couldn't have had more different openers, with the Jets easily beating a suspect Titans team while the Packers dominated the Vikings for 40 minutes then found a way to lose by 17. The lookahead line for this game was Packers -5.5, so I see the move all the way down to 3 as the market expressing overconfidence about one week. The Packers outgained the Vikings 419-239 in yardage, and most teams won't expose the Packers' O-line issues like Brian Flores did. I see value in fading this massive line move and backing the Packers' passing game to come out with the win.
Rain is in the forecast but I still like Geno Smith to exceed this relatively modest number. Smith didn’t need to throw much last week in Tennessee. He’ll need to throw more in this matchup. Garrett Wilson looks 100 percent healthy. Given the continued absence of Micah Parsons, Smith should operate from a clean pocket on most dropbacks.
Matthew Golden had absurd usage finishing with 12 targets in Week 1. He led the Packers with 31% first read target share. I’m officially buying and considering he has a full time role in a Green Bay squad thats shifting their identity from a run heavy team to a more pass centric offense. I haven’t been big on Matthew Golden (shout out Larry), but he functioned as Jordan Love’s primary chain mover.
This line likely closes lower. The Jets showed in Week 1 that they've improved following last season's 3-14 debacle, while the Packers remain winless (0-6) since losing Micah Parsons late last season. No. 2 overall pick David Bailey had six pressures and a sack for the Jets, who held Tennessee to 4.0 yards per play. I'll be looking to keep backing the Jets as long as Breece Hall and Garrett Wilson remain healthy.
Locking in the Jets +4.5 here, as my simulations make them just a 1.5-point home underdog against a Packers team that I’m not high on at all right now. The Jets will be able to move the football in both the running and passing games, and the home crowd will be ready for the home opener. I expect this line to close around +3.5, so I want to be on the other side of +4 while we still can.
