Putrid number for the Falcons compared to where they began the week, but thems the breaks waiting until Sunday for injury designations to land. Atlanta has a lot going for it in this spot. Primarily, it should be absolutely embarrassed with its performance against Carolina and in a major bounce-back mindset. Jayden Daniels, Terry McLaurin and Noah Brown are all out as Washington starters. The Falcons are home and capable of running the ball … why they have not done so more is mind-boggling, but perhaps a lesson was learned last week. Perhaps most importantly, the Commanders are not great against the pass, which should give Michael Penix Jr. and Drake London some wiggle room. Still a solid play in a weak 1 p.m. slate.

DraftKings. This is a tough spot for Zach Ertz. The Falcons rank 8th so far in DVOA against tight-ends (per FTN), and have only allowed 48 total receiving yards to tight ends through three games. Atlanta employs a single high safety coverage at the second highest rate (per Fantasy Points) which clogs the middle of the field. As a Commander, Ertz has recorded 80% of his yards over the middle of the field (95% this season). No Terry McLaurin, but also no Jayden Daniels should hurt the Commanders passing efficiency. This matchup profiles as a better spot for the Commanders receivers, especially as the Falcons are without their cornerback AJ Terrell. I’d bet this down to under 39.5 yards, or at under 16.5 longest reception.
A second straight shutout is unlikely for the Falcons, but let's not expect a complete recovery. The Commodores' defense ranks below average for yards yet has been tagged for just a half-dozen touchdowns. As for the Washington offense, QB Jayden Daniels leads a parade of injured inactives. Toss in WRs Terry McLaurin and Noah Brown, along with TE John Bates, an expert blocker, and backup QB Marcus Mariota could be in for a long day against his former mates. Mariota was 5-8 SU as a starter for Atlanta, averaging barely one TD pass per outing.
The new FanDuel number with Jayden Daniels and Terry McLaurin both ruled out for Washington. Also sitting are fellow WR Noah Brown and John Bates, the team's top blocking tight end. Because of injuries and one benching, the Commanders will only have five projected offensive starters from before the season for Sunday's game. Atlanta could have everyone of note available if cornerback AJ Terrell can go after missing Week 3 due to injury. The Falcons might be better than 1-2 considering they have outgained opponents by 334 yards this season, the first team since the 2016 Panthers with a losing record through 3 games despite outgaining teams by 300+ yards.
No Jayden Daniels for this game officially and no Terry McLaurin at practice on Friday, so I'm ready to pull the trigger on Atlanta here in an obvious bounceback spot after a humiliating loss to the Panthers last week.
We missed the best of the number early in the week; no need to sugar coat that aspect of this handicap. However we still have an opportunity to make a good bet here on the home dog Falcons. Atlanta was blitzed on the scoreboard last week 30-0 vs Carolina but the stats suggested a much closer football game. Falcons have won the net yards per play battle in all three games this year suggesting they've been unlucky. Wait, did I mention the Commanders injuries? Good buy low spot for the Falcons here in a game they'll close the favorite
The Falcons are coming off the most embarrassing loss of the season, and that figures to make this a nice bounceback spot. The Washington defense excelled in Week 1 but couldn't contain the Packers in Week 2 and then watched Tre Tucker go up and down the field, so Michael Penix figures to have a better game back on his home turf. Washington's offense is likely to be without Terry McLaurin and facing a surprisingly good Atlanta defense that ranks fifth in EPA per play. That Falcons defense is the decider here as Atlanta wins at home, but I'll take the 1.5 points if they're on offer.
The Falcons were shut out last week for the first time in four years. Michael Penix and the offense should bounce back in this one, especially after the dramatic moves Raheem Morris made. Morris fired his wide receivers coach and moved OC Zac Robinson from the coaches' box to the sideline. Washington could be without Terry McLaurin, Noah Brown and Jacory Croskey-Merritt, and Jayden Daniels apparently will be limited with his mobility -- if he plays. Atlanta has given up the third-fewest yards per play (4.3) and should have 10 of 11 defensive starters available. A.J. Terrell (hamstring) is the exception, but his absence will matter less without McLaurin.
