    Who are the SportsLine experts?

Here's a message from SportsLine's Managing Editor, Larry Hartstein, explaining how he uses our site:

I'm Larry Hartstein, a Managing Editor and Senior Analyst for the site. I've been here since its beginning and am excited to have you join us!

As a longtime user, I want to share some of what makes SportsLine so valuable to me. Here are three tips to get the most out of your membership:

    Pro Tip #1: 40+ Experts

While I love the comprehensive picks from SportsLine's models (more coming soon to your inbox), I personally work closely with our 40+ experts to provide some of the best info from the sharpest minds in the industry, including:

R.J. White - R.J. crushes football and has twice cashed huge in the world's most prestigious handicapping contest.
Kenny White - Kenny was setting lines for sportsbooks when he was 26 years old.
Matt Severance - Matt is a high-volume handicapper who has worked in the industry for 20 years.
Thomas Casale - One of our newest experts, Thomas started playing football sheets at age 8.
Zack Cimini - A Vegas-based handicapper who's never afraid to buck conventional wisdom.
Eric Cohen - "E5" is known for college sports and was up 13 units during his first season with SportsLine.
Me! - Don't forget to use my picks too. I pick in many sports and went 178-93 on straight-up NFL picks in 2023.

Plus, we have Golf picks from authority Sia Nejad; MMA picks from analyst Danny Brasco; Soccer picks from renowned guru Jon "Buckets" Eimer; and much, much more!

    Pro Tip #2: PropStarz

The best piece of advice I give anyone who wants to win at sports betting? Follow Alex Selesnick, aka PropStarz. Every time he makes a bet, sportsbooks adjust their lines.

In 2024, PropStarz was up 43 units in the NBA at the All-Star break for SportsLine members and he is poised to destroy the books in MLB too, just like last year.

    Pro Tip #3: Other sports-a-plenty

Expert picks for in-season sports such as NFL, NBA or MLB are easily accessible via the home page. However, sports that we don't currently provide model picks for like golfhorse racingNASCARsoccer, and MMA can be found in the analysis section of the site, which can be quickly located and sorted following these instructions:

    Computer or Mobile Web Browser

Go to the SportsLine Analysis page.
Filter by sport in the drop down menu.
Once you have selected a sport, you can filter by author in the other drop down menu.

    SportsLine App

Tap the menu icon (the three horizontal lines) at the top left of the screen.
    Tap Analysis.
Select a sport from the drop down menu.
Once you have selected a sport, you can filter by author in the other drop down menu.

How does the SportsLine simulation model make picks?

Here's an introduction to the SportsLine model from Principal Data Engineer Stephen Oh:

The model uses Monte Carlo simulations at a play-by-play level based on rosters, stats, trends, weather and... sorry, let me make this simple.

Imagine a sports video game simulation (but with no graphics) that's repeated 10,000 times to get all possible realistic results for any individual game. That's the model.

The sim results are then used to project the % chance of bets covering, including money-line, spread, over/under, props and more.

We have a team of humans that constantly update our sim projections around line movement, weather, injuries, breaking news and other factors.

If you'd like to hear our picks and all that goes into them (plus ask questions!), we have a YouTube Show "Inside The Lines" that features the team who does the behind-the-scenes work, including me.

How do I use the model?

You can easily find the model picks on our Pick Sheets, Player Projections and Matchup Analysis pages (accessible from the pick sheets). I recommend two strategies:

    🧑‍🔬 Your 'Consigliere'
The sims are a great tool to run your picks, leans, and hunches by for objective validation and additional angles.

    🅰️ Tailing picks
If you need a game for your betslip, we provide grades to help. Just like school, A is best, B is good and C passes but with a little less value.

What DFS tools does SportsLine have?

You want DFS tools? We have them! Here are the top tools DFS players use on SportsLine:

NFL DFS Optimizer - Build optimal NFL DFS lineups using model projections, expert projections, or the consensus. Multiple slates and DFS sites are available.
NBA DFS Optimizer - Build optimal NBA DFS lineups using model projections, expert projections, or the consensus. Multiple slates and DFS sites are available.
NBA DFS values - See values and pick grades for multiple DFS sites.
NFL DFS values - See values and pick grades for multiple DFS sites.

    What are AI props?

Built using cutting-edge artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques by SportsLine's Data Science team, AI Predictions and AI Ratings are generated for each player prop. The AI predictions are determined by statistically learning from each player's historical data then quantitatively evaluating the strength of the opponents defense by assigning a numeric value out of 100 called a matchup score.

Once a prediction is formulated, the AI rating is generated using the prediction, the matchup score, and the odds of the market. For example, you could see a 5-star rating on an over bet if a player is facing a poor defense, their prediction differs from the line and there are favorable odds. In addition, SportsLine AI, also known as AI PickBot, is the first fully automated predictive machine at SportsLine. It continuously refreshes on the most recent available data and can help you spot the biggest discrepancies in the lines.
