Everyone and their mother is on Philadelphia as touchdown road dogs, and you know what, I am, too. Either oddsmakers have outsmarted everyone, or Las Vegas is going to get rinsed on this game. There were some clear growing pains for the offense in Week 1 with Jalen Hurts’ inaccuracy still an issue, but the Titans looked horrendous scoring only 10 points and allowing whatever the opposition wanted on defense. Tennessee does not generate a strong enough pass rush to impact Hurts, Philly is better on both lines of scrimmage (even with injuries) and Saquon Barkley should keep the Titans off the field long enough so the Eagles can win by margin.
Landon Dickerson wasn't playing well before he landed on IR, but his absence has caused the Eagles to shuffle their offensive line Sunday. Drew Kendall moves to center, with Cam Jurgens taking over at guard for Dickerson. That could spell trouble vs. Jeffery Simmons and co. Philly mustered only 10 first downs in Week 1 under new coordinator Sean Mannion. While the Eagles should get out of Nashville with a win, I bet the Titans to keep it respectable.
Tennessee allowed 152 rushing yards to Breece Hall and Braelon Allen as the Jets game plan was to run, run, run, holding the ball for 39 minutes. Even though there has been a dip in Saquon Barkley's numbers since his 2,000-yard season in 2024, he still had hit 70+ yards in five of his last six games, with 68 in the other. I expect the Eagles to copy what the Jets did and run all game.
The Titans' offense did not look good against the Jets' defense, a unit that allowed the most passing TDs in the league without intercepting a pass last year. Cam Ward threw 32 passes and didn't complete one longer than 14 yards. The Eagles' defense will dial up the pressure and make it tough to hit long passes, and they surrendered only one longer than 20 yards against Washington -- a 33-yarder by Antonio Williams late in the game. I like that we only have to pay -110 on a prop that spent all but one play last week not close to hitting for both teams.
This pains me fading Saquon Barkley as a Philadelphia Eagles fan but I was simply not impressed with his Week 1 performance. The Eagles and new OC Sean Mannion made it a priority to get Saquon to the second level, something he routinely failed to do last year, and this happened once versus the Commanders, resulting in a chunk gain for 42 yards. Outside of that play, Barkley was a pedestrian 14 attempts for 41 yards. The Eagles just lost 3x Pro Bowler Guard Landon Dickerson and have very thin depth on their entire offensive line. While the Titans aren’t a scary matchup, the strength of their defense is certainly their interior led by All Pro Jonathan Simmons and John Franklin-Myers.
DraftKings. If you’ve been following me for a while, you knew this one was coming. Wan’Dale Robinson will play his second game for the Titans, and his role looked incredibly similar to what we saw in his time in New York before Malik’s Nabers’ injury. Robinson’s aDOT was four yards, and he did not see a target that traveled more than 10 air yards. Lining up in the slot 80% of the time, he’ll draw the Cooper DeJean assignment - arguably the league’s best slot corner. Cam Ward is also one of the worst intermediate and deep ball passers in the NFL (42% more than 10 air yards last season, 2/7 in Week 1). I’d bet this down to under 15.5 yards.
The Eagles have some injury concerns heading into Week 2, but the Titans were really bad in a 23-10 home loss to the Jets, especially on offense. Do we think the O will look better vs. the Eagles? Philly should have rolled the Commanders but slip-ups in defense and an uninspired offense hurt those of us who backed the Eagles ATS (myself included). Those issues will be rectified here.
Neither offense was any good in Week 1 and the Eagles faced what was supposed to be a terrible Commanders defense. It was not a good start for the Philly offense, despite the win. I don't think Tennessee actually has an offense as they were as inept as possible at home vs. Jets. Philly at least got 300+ yards. Tennessee had 195 total yards at home in the opener. 195.
The Eagles held on to a win against the Commanders, but the offense did not impress in what was expected to be one of their easier matchups. This feels like a bit of a get-right spot, but I expect they'll focus more on running the ball in the second half of what should be an easier win and chew up clock. The Titans offense was dreadful against the Jets, managing just 4 yards per play, and I can't see them scoring many points here. I want to get this number at DraftKings while it's on this side of 40 so I'm jumping on now.
