The Falcons’ offense was listless in Week 1, but that was vs. a strong Steelers team and Rush was a late start decision, dealing with a back issue of his own. Now the team is more prepared, they’re at home and they face a Panthers defense that gave up 552 yards and 59 points to the Bears. Carolina hasn’t covered a game as a favorite in nearly five years (0-12). Bijan Robinson should have a day vs. a Panthers D that was gashed for 291 rush yards last week and couldn’t stop the run last year either.
Some of Carolina QB Bryce Young's best career games have come at Atlanta and, with the Falcons QB situation still a mess with Cooper Rush making another start, we'll take the Panthers to take advantage and emerge with a win.
Everyone saw how bad the Falcons' offense looked with Cooper Rush last week, and that's pushed this line to 3 at some books. But should the Panthers be laying 3 on the road against anyone? Their offense finished 27th in scoring last year, made no upgrades and benefited from playing a terrible Chicago defense in Week 1. Their defense gave up nearly 300 yards on the ground. Meanwhile, the Falcons went into Pittsburgh and played the Steelers even, minus the incredible T.J. Watt play, making their edge rusher absences look less fatal in the process. This should be a pick 'em line, and I love fading the massive line move based on Week 1 overreactions.
Tetairoa McMillan's yardage totals are still too low. He easily went over 57.5 last week against the Bears with 75 yards on five receptions. Going back to 2025, McMillan has exceeded this total in six of his last seven games. I expect Atlanta's defense to be tougher against the run than the pass this year, so look for Bryce Young to have another good game on Sunday. Play McMillan's over receiving yards up to 59.5.
The Atlanta Falcons are not a good football team right now. Granted, they are on QB3, but QB1 and QB2 aren't good either. Outside of Bijan Robinson, the Falcons completed 4 passes all day. Drake London, Zaccheaus, Dotson, and Pitts were not used and this wasn't the '85 Bears they were facing. Panthers showed last year was no joke, even in the loss, and are primed to repeat in that division. They couldn't stop the Bears, but the Falcons offense is the opposite. I don't have a problem taking road team here, even knowing that Bryce Young has never covered in a game as favorite.
Lost in the wacky, points-filled game last weekend vs the Bears is the fact that the Panthers also scored damn near 40 points themselves. Sure, they have to be better defensively but you don't have those same types of worries and concern vs this particular Falcons offense. Also, I fully expect the offense we saw last week from the Panthers to be the same offense we see this week vs Atlanta.
