DraftKings. On the heels of a 32-yard reception last week on a catch-and-run, I’m going to sell high and fade AJ Barner on his long reception prop. Barner’s average depth of target this season is 1.8 yards and has yet to record a target that has traveled more than 10 air yards. The Chargers defense does not give up a lot of yards after the catch, and I’m also trusting that last week’s inflated target total for Barner (9) was the product of a flukey gamescript.
Caesar’s. The Chargers offense has looked miserable out of the gate. However, one of the few bright spots has been speedster Keaton Mitchell. The newly acquired running back is averaging five yards per carry and caught a receiving touchdown last week. Mitchell’s snaps have increased each week since dealing with a preseason injury, and his presence on the field should be gamescript proof. It’s not a great matchup for him or the Chargers offense as a whole, but I do like it better for Mitchell than Omarion Hampton. Mitchell has cleared this line in each of the last two games, Look for the former Raven’s speed to play today - I’d bet this up to over 35.5 yards.
I don't think there's much doubt that Mitchell is among the few Chargers with explosiveness to his game. The offense utilized Mitchell as soon as their third snap from scrimmage last week and gave him a total of 11 touches, often giving him carries to the edges and short targets in the passing game. Both of those types of touches are perfect to lean on against a zone-heavy defense like the Seahawks. It wouldn't surprise me if Mitchell had his second game of the year with 10-plus touches and his third with at least 39 total yards.
I'm not sure I understand this line in the slightest. The Chargers turned five Buffalo giveaways into a one-touchdown day, leaving them unable to cover amid an awful Bills performance. An elite Seahawks team should come out focused after losing a game they should've won after dominating to the tune of +2.8 yards per play differential. With Sam Darnold back, the Seahawks are the best team in football, and I'm not sure the Chargers are even average. A line of -10 would make more sense than sub-7, so the oddsmakers must be counting on the Chargers to finally catch a big break to make it so low. I'd counter that that happened last week, and it didn't matter. Seahawks roll here.
