The Philadelphia Eagles just two weeks ago had a 20-1 streak going. Now they head into their road game against the Vikings having lost consecutive games. It’s a similar down turn we saw at the tail end of the 2023 season when the Eagles went 1 and 7 over their final eight games. Look for the Eagles to get in their own way, as the Vikings do just enough to get the home cover.
What was expected last week should actually come to fruition this week: The Eagles going back to running the football. The Vikings have one of the worst rush defenses in the league, and Philadelphia should be able to take advantage of that to even out its offensive gameplan and get back to a level of consistency that has been missing for most of this season. While Minnesota is at home and coming off the bye, its defensive losses do not match up well against where Philly thrives, namely in the middle of the field. This is almost a must-win game for the Eagles, and they will get it done at a meager number.

Jordan Addison has drawn 14 targets since returning from suspension two games ago. That includes three deep targets. With Quinyon Mitchell good to go for the Eagles, Philly's top corner likely will spend much of Sunday covering Justin Jefferson. That should give Addison opportunities against a very beatable Adoree Jackson. The Eagles have surrendered the seventh-most receiving yards to perimeter wideouts.

Dallas Goedert has scored a touchdown (two touchdowns in Week 3) in every game but Week 1 so far this season. The Eagles need to jumpstart their offense, but they shouldn't go away from Goedert, who has been a big positive for the Eagles' struggling offense. Goedert has caught 100% of his redzone targets (five) and four for touchdowns. Look for him to find the endzone again Sunday.

For the record, Barkley has posted under 71 yards in all but one game this year, which makes this line a little funny to me. What hasn't been funny is the lack of work Barkley's had in the Eagles past two games: 18 total carries. That's coaching malpractice. I expect the Eagles to get back to running the ball with Barkley, especially with Landon Dickerson expected back and the O-line at full strength. This Vikings defense allowed Kenneth Gainwell to look like a superstar three weeks ago, then wasn't challenged much by the Browns two weeks ago. On the year they've let up 4.4 yards per run but 4.6 in their past four games.
Philadelphia got pushed around on both sides of the ball last weekend vs the Giants. It was eye-popping to see in real time. Which makes this upcoming matchup vs a formidable Vikings squad ever so important. I would expect the Eagles to come out playing the best game offensively, especially in the trenches. And their best game on the defensive side of the ball as well, getting to Carson Wentz numerous times.
The Eagles have been outgained in all six of their games this season yet here they are, installed as a road favorite. The Vikings have been up and down and injured. The bye week ought to be a huge lift for them. It's a sandwich spot for Philly who lost to the Giants last week and face NY again next week. My numbers make Minnesota the favorite. I'll take the points, play a little moneyline, and also make them a teaser leg up to +7.5 or better.
The Eagles are in the middle of a division sandwich, having played the Giants last Thursday and playing them again in Week 8. Every team will be fired up to play the defending Super Bowl champions. Minnesota has a strong home-field advantage, ranking in the top five. Kevin O'Connell has won two of three after a bye week, with the only loss by two points against Detroit last year in Minnesota. Giving offensive-minded head coaches two weeks to prepare is typically an advantage not accounted for in the line. I made this line Philadelphia -1 with a healthy J.J. McCarthy under center for Minnesota. He's good to go. Play the Vikings plus the points.
The Eagles are at a low point after a 17-point loss to the Giants, and while that typically means a buying opportunity, I don't want any part of them in this matchup. A struggling offense now has to face the second-ranked defense in EPA per play, while the Philly corners, who just got beat up by Wan'Dale Robinson and Lil'Jordan Humphrey, may have to face Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison without Quinyon Mitchell. The Vikings are also coming off a bye with the opportunity to be much healthier. I don't think we'll have the opportunity to grab +3, so I'm jumping on the Vikings now.
