This Mariners lineup is missing some key starters and the line is rightfully moving a good bit here. The Yankees lineup has been confirmed as missing only Austin Wells which was anticipated anyways. With a day off tomorrow, the Yankees might be missing their lefties who each pitched on back to back days but David Bednar should still be available and I'm willing to back them to get the sweep seeing the lineup on the other side now.
The Mariners look broken on a six-game skid, and it's a 10:10 a.m. Pacific time start ahead of a trip to Houston (much bigger series in terms of the AL West), so this really doesn't seem to set up well for Seattle. Not a huge fan of today's lineup that is missing second baseman Cole Young (he was injured Wednesday), shortstop Colt Emerson and outfielder Taylor Ward against Yankees ace Max Fried (4-3, 2.88 ERA). The Mariners are atrocious vs. lefties, ranking 29th with a .640 OPS. That's one of the reasons they traded for Ward, so it's curious he's not starting. Seattle is 13 games under .500 away.
Luis Garcia has only played with the Yankees in seven games and has hit just one home run so far, and none in his last six games. But I think Thursday afternoon at Yankee Stadium against Logan Gilbert and the Mariners is the perfect opportunity to hit his second homer. Gilbert has allowed four home runs between his last two ballgames spread over 13.2 innings. HeтАЩs served up 19 home runs on the season. Garcia has hit 24 home runs this year, but he went 0-for-4 yesterday. He hits one out against Gilbert.
The Yankees have won the last four meetings with the Mariners and also eight of the last nine. The Mariners come into this game in a world of hurt with a six-game losing streak and a 56-65 record, 4.5 games out of the last AL wild card spot. The Yankees have won their last two against the Mariners and look for the sweep on Thursday. The welcomed news is that they put 10 runs on the board Wednesday. Logan Gilbert has lost his last two outings against the Yankees, including March 31st when he gave up five runs in Seattle. Max Fried bounced back to his old self in his last outing against the Braves, allowing no runs in 6.1 innings. Yankees to win.
We're gonna continue to ride that Fade the Mariners gravy train. They're now 23-36 on the road and 9-21 since July 5. Logan Gilbert is better than the first two M's starters in this series, but Max Fried is on the hill for the Yankees, and he's only given up 1 run in 11 2/3 innings in his last two starts against the Cubs and Braves. Those offenses are much more capable than the hapless Mariners.
