The Patriots have won 12 straight in this series and won last year's matchups by 60 combined points. In Jets QB Zach Wilson's one full game against the Patriots, he was sacked four times and picked off four others. The erratic signal-caller is a bullseye for Bill Belichick's defensive game planning and, with the Patriots coming off an embarrassing home loss to the Bears, they should rebound in solid fashion.
A four-game win streak for the New York Jets may have been more a product of of a fortunate schedule than on the field performance. They faced two backup quarterbacks from the Dolphins and Broncos, and also rookie Kenny Pickett’s first start in the NFL.Expect an angry Patriots team on Sunday after Monday’s embarrassment against the Bears. Take the road favorite in New England to beat the Jets at their own game.
Short week for the Pats but no QB controversy with Mac Jones back in the saddle apparently for good -- they looked awful Monday but almost never play back-to-back poor games under Bill Belichick. I may have taken the Jets if they didn't lose excellent rookie RB Breece Hall and offensive tackle Alijah Vera-Tucker for the season last Sunday. WR Corey Davis is also out for this one.
The Jets are 5-2 but they've been fortunate in terms of the QBs they've faced. Without Breece Hall and Corey Davis, Zach Wilson should struggle today versus Bill Belichick's defense. Look for New England to bounce back after getting embarrassed in the national TV spotlight on Monday.
Mac Jones was lifted from the beatdown by the Bears, yet remains the starter instead of Bailey Zappe, which is keeping this spread below a field goal. New England is accustomed to bouncing back after rare lopsided losses. It’s covered in four of the past five meetings and should again with the Jets missing impressive rookie RB Breece Hall and RT Alijah Vera-Tucker from an average offense at full strength.
The Jets lost two major pieces on offense with the injuries to Breece Hall and Alijah Vera-Tucker last week, but I'm excited about the growth of their defense, which allowed 10 points in Green Bay and nine points in Denver during the team's two-game road trip. That defense will be hungry to tee off on a Patriots offense that looked lost against the Bears and is wrestling with a quarterback controversy. You'd expect Bill Belichick's defense to dominate a quarterback like Zach Wilson, but you'd have said the same about Justin Fields last week, and I think the Jets can still have success on the ground despite their injuries. I'd typically worry about a letdown with a team playing over its skis on a four-game winning streak, but the Jets are desperate to finally get a W against a reeling Pats team, and I'd make them favored here.
