West Virginia online casinos had a big month in May 2026, earning over $39.54 million in revenue. This figure is a 32.1% year-over-year increase from May 2025, when the state's gaming sites earned $29.9 million. It's also 3% higher than last month's total of $38.1 million.

Inside West Virginia's May iGaming numbers

The West Virginia Lottery releases weekly iGaming revenue reports through the Other Reports section on its website. This requires adding up weekly totals and estimating the cut-off weeks to arrive at a monthly revenue figure.

An example of a cut-off week would be the $9.59 million made from April 25 to May 2, where we can only count the first two days of May.

That said, here's how we came up with just under $39.54 million in May 2026 revenue:

  • May 1–2: $2,740,681.54 (two-day average based on $9,592,385.38)
  • May 3–9: $9,288,386.50
  • May 10–16: $9,215,597.33
  • May 17–23: $8,562,622.44
  • May 24–30: $8,367,375.24
  • May 31: $1,363,611.49 (one-day average based on $9,545,280.40)
  • May 2026 total: $39,538,274.54 in operator revenue

West Virginia taxes iGaming operators at a 15% rate. Here's a look at total tax revenue generated by WV online casinos last month:

  • April 25 to May 2: $411,102.24 (two-day average based on $1,438,857.83)
  • May 3–9: $1,393,257.98
  • May 10–16: $1,382,339.61
  • May 17–23: $1,284,393.36
  • May 24–30: $1,255,106.30
  • May 31 to June 6: $204,541.72 (one-day average based on $1,431,792.06)
  • May 2026 total: $5,930,741.21 in tax revenue

Comparison to neighboring Pennsylvania

West Virginia has one neighbor that regulates iGaming in Pennsylvania. We can't directly compare the two states' online casino revenue because the Keystone State has a much larger population (13.06 million vs. 1.76 million).

However, we can make a per-capita comparison of how the Mountaineer State is doing by accounting for population differences. Pennsylvania has 7.42 times as many residents as West Virginia.

Before applying that figure, let's look at how much revenue the state's online gambling sites earned in May 2026 according to the state's latest revenue report:

  • $202,477,014 from real money online slots
  • $49,864,055 from online table games
  • $2,483,973 from iPoker
  • May 2026 total: $257,825,042

Here's how much PA online casinos would theoretically make if Pennsylvania were the same size as West Virginia:

  • 257,825,042 / 7.42 (PA population multiplier) = $34,747,310

You can see that West Virginia is doing quite well with iGaming revenue despite its smaller size. Its $39.54 million figure is pretty solid considering only 1.76 people live here.

For the year, WV gaming sites have earned $198.6 million from online casino games for real money. Considering that there are seven months of revenue reports left in the year, the state should easily top $400 million in 2026.
