Michigan Gaming Control Board wins creativity award for responsible gambling website
Recognized for its innovative approach to promoting responsible gambling, the MGCB has been honored with a Platinum Hermes Creative Award

The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has won an award for its website, Don't Regret the Bet, which is dedicated to responsible gambling. It received a Platinum Hermes Creative Award from the Association of Marketing Communication Professionals (AMCP), a respected evaluator of marketing and communications work.
MGCB award started with a single page
Don't Regret the Bet began as a single-page resource dedicated to helping people play responsibly at Michigan online casinos. It has since grown into a large website with various pages dedicated to educational materials, downloadable guides, support resources, and advice for players, families, and community organizations.
A primary reason for expanding the site was creating a youth-oriented initiative to help minimize early exposure to sports betting and casino games online among minors.
An MGCB press release cited a University of Minnesota study as extra motivation for helping prevent teens from gambling. The research shows that minors are four times more likely to develop a gambling addiction in adulthood.
"The expansion of this website was about more than adding pages," said MGCB Executive Director Henry Williams. "It was about creating a meaningful public resource at a time when online gambling has become more visible and accessible than ever before. We wanted to ensure Michiganders, especially parents and young people, could easily find trusted information, prevention tools, and support."
AMCP impressed with creative additions to the website
Updated shortly before March Madness, the Don't Regret the Bet site features plenty of new additions that weren't there just months ago. The AMCP took notice when deciding to give the MGCB the Platinum Hermes Creative Award. Some of the new additions include:
- Info and access to the Problem Gambling Helpline.
- Youth-focused prevention resources as part of a "Don't Bet on Your Future" campaign.
- Funding efforts totaling up to $4,000 for booster clubs focused on preventing minors from gambling.
- Downloadable resources and toolkits.
Don't Regret the Bet supplements online casino responsible gambling tools
Besides running its own website and resources, the MGCB requires each licensed MI gaming site to provide responsible gambling tools. Examples include deposit limits, time limits, loss limits, and timeouts.Â
All regulated and safe online casinos in the state must also provide a self-exclusion option. Players can self-exclude themselves from online gambling for between six months and permanently. Once they do this, they'll be prevented from using any regulated gambling site within the state.
