The Eagles are mired in a late-season free fall that started with their blowout loss to the 49ers and has resulted in losses in four of their pass five. Their lone win in that span came against the Giants, whose late-season resurgence included a 1-point home loss to the Rams last week. The Eagles have just one more get-right opportunity before the playoffs and it comes Sunday against a New York team that has lost three straight and will be hard pressed to put up another respectable effort.
The Eagles head to the Meadowlands for a rivalry game that won't mean much to them here. Philly's playoff seeding won't change unless the Cowboys (-13 favorites against the Commanders) lose their final game. The Eagles will likely be watching the score of that game, and bench their starters if Dallas pulls away. The Eagles ended the regular season in poor form, and need to get into the playoffs without risking further injury. Tyrod Taylor at QB, and the Giants playing with pride at home to end the year, give them the upside to cover this +5 number.
Slayton went off as soon as Tyrod Taylor took over at QB and is the unquestioned deep ball guy in this offense. He's has catches of 33 yards or more in each of the last three games and is facing an Eagles defense that has allowed 20 passing plays of 22+ Since Week 12 (30th). Slayton if over this in 7 of the last 11 games despite the horrible QB plays from the NYG all season. Taylor is a major upgrade in deep-ball accuracy from Tommy Cutlets and Daniel Jones.
Entered the game cold against the Eagles a few weeks back and immediately attacked their downfield deficiencies. Then he gave the Rams all they could handle. Brian Daboll will let him cut loose here with nothing to lose. The Eagles have allowed a ridiculous 34 passing TDs. If Taylor throws it 40+ times like last week he's going to beat these guys twice for scores. This has hit 7 straight times the Eagles have faced a team's starting QB for all four quarters (Cutlets/Taylor in the NYG game and Drew Lock subbing for Geno Smith were the exceptions). Matt Patricia is overmatched running the Eagles defense and it's fair to wonder if these players are buying what he's scribbling with the pencil behind his ear.
There's turmoil in the Eagles' locker room. They need a week off and a fresh start more than most teams. They also know Dallas is likely to pummel Washington, meaning the Philly-Giants game would be meaningless. Tyrod Taylor has been much more aggressive than many expected, throwing 80- and 69-yard touchdowns. Look for the host Giants to keep it close if not win outright.
These two combined for 58 points a few weeks back. Giants have rolled up 25 in two straight with Tyrod Taylor now at QB. Eagles D is more broken with Matt Patricia calling plays than it was before him. They've given up 25+ in 5 of the last 6. Five of the last 7 NYG games are 46+. Eight of the last 10 Eagles games are 46+. Philly needs to try to win to keep division hopes alive, and they just need a win, regardless. Rolled up 470 yards in first meeting with NYG. Average NYG division game: 47 points. Average PHI division game: 58 points, with a low of 46. I see both teams scoring 24+, even if the Eagles pull some starters late.
The Eagles just beat the Giants two weeks ago handily, but that was a tale of two halves after Tyrod Taylor took over at halftime. Since Taylor entered the game, the Eagles defense has given up at least 30 yards on every drive except two, with one being the 14-yard TD drive the Giants scored right after the break and the other coming with 16 seconds left in the first half against Arizona. This is a broken defense that the Giants, who gained 5.8 yards per play last week, can certainly score on. This was about the same line for New York last week in a game they nearly won, and the Eagles are playing far below the Rams right now.
