The Atlanta Hawks at 1-3 personify why you can’t over react to early season basketball. Expectations can still be achieved as they work through their new personnel and lineups. Tonight is a golden opportunity to get back on track against a Brooklyn Nets team that is shot heavy with Michael Porter Jr and Cam Thomas. Expect the second unit of the Hawks to build upon any lead the first unit has. Roll with the Hawks.
These are two of weaker defenses in the league thus far. Brooklyn is last in defensive rating while the Hawks come in at 24th. Atlanta also is currently the 4th worst in allowing second chance points to their opponents with a little over 20 per game. The Nets struggle in the rebounding department, especially on the defensive side, averaging less than 25 rebounds per game. Brooklyn is also allowing their opponents to score an average of 130 points per contest switch bodes well for the Hawks who want to play with pace.

The total for this game is 239 and that might be low as the Nets are the NBA's worst defensive team and the Hawks not too far behind. Cam Thomas is about the only scorer the Nets have, and our model has him at 25.9 PPG. He scored 33 in the lone home matchup so far and is averaging 24.5 on the year. Thomas faced the Hawks once last season and had 36 points. Too bad there's no shot attempts prop as Thomas might get 27 minimum.

DraftKings. Jalen Johnson has cleared this line in two of his three games played. Scoring 76% of his points in the restricted area and via free throws, this should be a fantastic matchup for the Hawks forward. The Nets are getting torched at the rim, allowing the third most made baskets, and are allowing the fourth most free throw attempts. I’d bet this up to over 18.5 points.

Onyeka Okongwu has both started and come off the bench this season. Regardless of his role, he has logged at least 29 minutes and posted at least 21 combined points and rebounds in all four games. The Nets have been dreadful, recording the worst defensive rating in the league. This game has blowout written all over it, so the Hawks might use it as an opportunity to limit the minutes of the often-injured Kristaps Porzingis. Okongwu could sail past 30 minutes in this matchup, which makes this over even more appealing.
