It's the Cubs in a standalone Friday matinee, and you don't know day drinking unless you have been to Wrigley for one of these Ferris Buehler specials. Your Saturday headache will be epic. I woke up in Gary, Ind., once after one in the 2000s. No one should ever wake up in Gary, Ind. So I have to have some opinion here. Not a huge one, but Shota Imanaga has been quite good of late with a 1.19 ERA this month (checking .. yep still July for one more day).
Shota Imanaga has pitched well in July, holing his opponents to a combined three runs in 22.2 innings. He also has a favorable matchup against a Yankees squad hitting .232 against lefties on the road. However, Imanaga’s consistent issue have been allowing home runs and we all know New York is, typically, homer or strikeout. Will Warren owns a 5.00 road ERA and 7.85 ERA over his last six starts. He faces one of the best offenses in the majors, scoring over five runs per game. The forecast is calling for a decent amount of wind blowing out to get this one up and over the total.
I'll ride the hot hand of Shota Imanaga and roll with my Cubbies on Friday afternoon. Since the All-Star Break, Imanaga has been awesome, allowing no runs in 13 innings pitched. In fact, Imanaga has surrendered two or fewer earned runs in five straight outings. Yankees starter Will Warren was tagged for six runs in three innings in Philadelphia on Sunday night and runs up against a Cubs team who has won 8 of 13 since the Break. Last year, these two pitchers squared off in New York, with Imanaga holding the Yankees to two hits and one run over seven innings en route to a 4-1 win. I'll back a similar outcome for the North Siders on Friday afternoon.
