Tom's Past Picks
Miami is a bit banged up coming into this game, so with Malachi Toney at less than 100%, and the Canes facing the first real defense they've seen all year, we might see them look a little more ordinary. Clemson, meanwhile, would love to look ordinary on offense. That and potential weather conditions have me going under.
USF isn't slow-moving, but it's much slower moving on offense this year than it was under Alex Golesh, and it's led to some value on totals in Bulls games. I'd bet this down to 45.
Washington's offense has been putrid this season despite playing a relatively softer schedule to begin the year. Sure, the Trojans are coming off a loss to Oregon, but this Washington squad ain't the Ducks.
The heart of BYU's offense remains its ground game, but TCU's rush defense is strong enough to slow the Cougars down, especially at home. Then there's the TCU offense, which is just bad.
These are two of the worst defenses in the Power Four. Neither have shown much of a pass rush or an ability to stop anybody, and I don't see either starting on Saturday.
Georgia State continues to fly under the radar in the market, and that's fine by me. I'll keep backing them until it's no longer worthwhile. They aren't a powerhouse, but they're one of the better teams in the Sun Belt, even if nobody knows it yet.
Neither the Ohio State or Iowa defenses have played as well this season as we typically expect. Ohio State's defense ranks 85th nationally in pressure rate. Iowa just got picked apart by a Michigan passing offense that had struggled all year. It won't be a shootout, but it'll be higher-scoring than you expect.
Missouri's offense should be able to move the ball against Florida's defense, but can it play a perfect game? It may have to in order to keep up, because these Gators are putting up at least 45 on everybody so far.
We're getting some value here. Michigan outplayed Iowa last week but got Iowa'd anyway. Minnesota won on the road against Washington, but the result said far more about the Huskies than Gophers. Michigan's defense will stymie the Gophers.
It's a bet I've been making forever, and will continue to make until the end of time. The under is a cash machine in games between service academies. Even as they change, and the sport changes, the under cashes at an incredible rate.
One of the biggest games of the weekend, even if neither team has one of those little numbers next to their names. Both teams have gotten off to great starts, but their overall numbers are skewed by each playing one game in horrific weather. I like Pitt's offense a little more, so if I can grab a field goal, I'll take it.
I haven't seen anything from Georgia Tech that tells me I should be comfortable trusting them as road favorites. Stanford has plenty of problems of its own, but this week the Cardinal are playing an opponent much closer to their level than the number suggests.
Listen, I've enjoyed the UMass story so far. From 0-12 to 3-0 is incredible, but two of the wins have come against FCS teams. Now the Minutemen are flying across the country and are favorites on the road? Let's pump the brakes a little.
Tulsa will likely be without its starting QB yet this line hasn't budged all week. That's how little faith the market has in Arkansas right now, and I'm aligned with the market here.
I'm fully bought in on Kamario Taylor. I had high expectations for him coming into the season but he's exceeded them, and looks like a player with far more experience than he actually has. I think he outduels Austin Simmons -- another impressive QB -- at home.
