Oklahoma State's struggles stopping the run this season make for an interesting matchup with a Kansas State team focused on doing just that with the ball, but with Adrian Martinez banged up and the Cowboys capable of getting to the quarterback, it could wind up being a long day for the Wildcats. Mike Gundy is on a 13-2 ATS streak on the road when the spread is less than four in either direction. If Kansas State can completely control the clock, a home win is possible here, but Oklahoma State should have enough firepower to get a key score or two in the fourth quarter to win straight up. Still, let’s take a near field goal since we’re getting it … and see if you can get a full one before kickoff.
In Mike Gundy I trust. The Oklahoma State coach has a knack for getting the Cowboys to prevail in close games. They are 33-13 in their past 46 games decided by nine points or fewer. Oklahoma State also is 10-4 in its past 14 games when both teams are ranked, 9-4 in the past 13 meetings against Kansas State, including 3-0 in the past three, and 6-2 in its last eight road games. Meanwhile Kansas State quarterback Adrian Martinez (leg) will be a game-time decision and, if he does play, may be limited. I'm back in the saddle again.
Since 2017, Oklahoma State is 14-2 against-the-spread as underdogs and 8-1 as road underdogs. Cowboys QB Spencer Sanders was hurt a few weekends ago against TCU, but he showed little signs of the injury against Texas last weekend. My model has hit on two consecutive A picks on Oklahoma State, and I am riding with the Cowboys again. Kansas State is also very banged up. QB Adrian Martinez is a game-time decision, while star RB Deuce Vaughn is also ailing.
Kansas State QB Adrian Martinez is banged up and considered questionable, though it is widely believed he will attempt to play. Even so, this is more so a play-against spot on an Oklahoma State team that might be considered the most resilient team in college football history if it pulls this one off. The Cowboys are coming off a stretch of four straight intense games that saw them overcome a heartbreaking OT loss to TCU two weeks ago with a comeback from a 14-point deficit against Texas last week. They seem destined to hit a wall against a Kansas State club that will be smarting from blowing an 11-point lead to undefeated TCU last week.
Wildcats quarterback Adrian Martinez is nursing a knee injury that limited him last weekend, and his for this week's matchup is still up-in-the-air. Even if he does play, it's safe to say that he won't be 100%. Meanwhile, the Cowboys are riding high after last week's win over Texas, and have covered the spread in three of their last four games. Spencer Sanders doesn't get the credit he deserves, and will light up a Wildcats defense that has given up 28 or more points in three of their last four.
