MGM casinos to close Vegas buffets by 2027
With MGM closing its remaining Vegas buffets by 2027, Sin City visitors will only have a handful of all-you-can-eat options left as operators prioritize fine dining and other experiences.

MGM Resorts plans to close its three remaining buffets in Las Vegas by 2027. The Bellagio and Excalibur casino buffets will shut down first, followed by Cosmopolitan's Wicked Spoon closing later in the year. This news comes on the heels of the MGM Grand Buffet serving its last meal on May 31, 2026.
Only a handful of Vegas buffets left
Sin City featured a few dozen buffets prior to 2020, when the pandemic started. Most Vegas casinos have since closed their buffet operations over the past several years.
MGM Resorts was one of the few holdouts, operating four buffets until shutting down the Grand Buffet. By the end of 2027, it plans to offer zero.
The only Vegas casinos still operating all-you-can-eat options with no immediate plans of closing them include:
- Caesars Palace (Bacchanal Buffet)
- Circus Circus (Circus Buffet)
- Resorts World (Signature Seafood Buffet)
- Wynn Buffet
Changing revenue model in Vegas
Las Vegas used to draw 75% of its revenue from gambling. All-you-can-eat buffets with low prices were considered worthy loss leaders as long as players kept filling slot machines and table games.
However, Sin City has slowly diversified its revenue streams amid increased gambling competition. Everything from regional gaming venues to more accessible casino games online has reduced gamblers' reliance on Vegas.
Visitors today are more interested in an all-around experience that includes fine dining, music acts, shopping, and shows.
Of course, gambling is still part of this experience to some extent. But it's not as dominant as it once was due to more casinos nationwide, legal real money online slots, and mobile sports betting. Therefore, it no longer makes sense to operate buffets at a major loss each year.
MGM has gradually shifted focus
Like many casino operators, MGM Resorts has changed its mindset on low-margin offerings, such as the all-you-can-eat model. Over time, it has gravitated towards upscale steakhouses and celebrity-chef restaurants that command higher revenue per customer.
Other MGM priorities beyond buffets include entertainment, nightlife, conventions, meeting spaces, and luxury hospitality. These shifts not only apply to MGM but also to Vegas operators as a whole.
Besides moving into higher prices and non-gambling experiences, MGM Resorts is also concentrating on its online gambling brand. BetMGM has proven to be one of the best online casinos available in Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.
The BetMGM Casino bonus code is also quite popular because it provides one of the largest welcome offers in the US. Any player who signs up with the SPORTSLINEMGM promo code will receive up to $1,000 casino credits ($2,500 in WV) plus a $25 sign-up bonus ($50 + 50 bonus spins in WV).
