A second Canadian province is nearing the launch of legal online casinos, and one of the most prevalent operators in the US has confirmed that it will branch into its neighbor to the north. DraftKings Casino announced its intent to go live in the Alberta online casino market – potentially as early as the July 13 date that officials have targeted for launch.

Eligible Alberta residents can pre-register with DraftKings Casino

Pending licensure and regulatory approval, DraftKings expects to launch DraftKings Casino as well as its online sportsbook in Alberta as soon as July 13, which Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) has circled as the first date licensed operators can debut in the province.

Alberta will join Ontario as the lone provinces in Canada to offer legal real money online casino operators. As for DraftKings, Alberta represents the 34th jurisdiction in North America in which the company offers regulated sports betting and the seventh for online casinos.

"We're excited about the opportunity to expand DraftKings' footprint in Canada," Greg Karamitis, executive vice president and general manager of sports at DraftKings, said in a statement, "and bring our online sportsbook and casino experiences to customers in Alberta."

According to a press release, eligible Alberta residents who are at least 18 years old can preregister with DraftKings Casino and DraftKings Sportsbook ahead of the expected launch.

What other Alberta online casinos can we expect?

Obviously, DraftKings Casino won't be alone among new online casinos in Alberta. Since officials began circling mid-2026 as a launch date for Alberta online casinos, many have speculated and anticipated official announcements of other top online casinos.

In recent fourth-quarter earnings calls, FanDuel and BetMGM touched on expanding their libraries of casino games online into Alberta. What's more, Caesars Entertainment confirmed it would launch Caesars Palace Online Casino, Caesars Casino & Sportsbook and Horseshoe Casino.

There's understandable excitement about online casinos in Alberta, with experts estimating that the industry could generate approximately $900 million annually.
