The probable starting QBs have launched a combined one pass this season, but they are not created equal in this scenario. New York's Mike White takes aim at a defense that has declined since trading LB Roquan Smith, plus rookie DBs Kyler Gordon and Jaquan Brisker might not emerge in time from concussion protocol. White is an upgrade over demoted Zach Wilson. Chicago's Justin Fields has not been ruled out, but subjecting the sore-shouldered QB to the Jets' pass rush would be risky. New York accumulated six sacks and eight QB hits last Sunday while denying New England's offense a TD.
Big number but I don't see the Bears staying within a TD without Justin Fields, who is not expected to play. I am a Bears fan and they are just trash without him. So instead of Zach Wilson vs. Fields we are getting Mike White vs. Trevor Siemian. I wouldn't watch that if it was in my backyard.
Justin Fields' status remains in question, while the Jets have benched Zach Wilson for Mike White. He's an improvement over the rookie. Last year White showed that he can spark the offense, even engineering a 34-31 upset of Cincinnati. Since they traded Roquan Smith and Robert Quinn, the Bears have fielded the NFL's worse defense. In their current four-game losing streak, the Bears have given up a whopping 142 points. Chicago has been competitive in that span for one reason: Fields. Now he's dealing with an AC joint injury. Even if he plays, he's at risk of being forced out at any time. Lay the points.
The Jets seem to be a mess on and off the field after Zach Wilson didn't take accountability following one of the worst performances by any offense all season, but a matchup with the depleted Bears defense cures all ills. The last time the Jets faced a defense not in the top 10 of yards per play, they scored 27 points in Green Bay. The bigger concern is the injury to Justin Fields, which moved the line up to Jets -6 on Monday before reports surfaced he's day-to-day. The thing is, even with a 100% healthy Fields I make this line Jets -4.5 thanks to a defense that ranks fourth in yards per play, and I think it needs to be Jets -10 if he's out. So I'll scoop up all the potential value now with not much downside.
