Divisional matchups are always tough to predict, especially when one team is on absolute fire to start a season. The Eagles are one of the most heavy fan-backed teams in the league, which makes their lines notably difficult to call. But it's rare that this early in a season we get as apples-to-apples a comparison as two teams that have played the same opponent in the same environment (Lions on the road) to vastly different results. Jalen Hurts should show out in a major way with Carson Wentz likely trying to make a statement against his former team. Given Wentz's propensity for turnovers in normal circumstances, forcing things against this Philadelphia defense would be a bad idea.
The Commandeers have scored 55 while allowing 58 points combined through their first two games. This is an equation that bodes well for an Over against an explosive Eagles club that has put up 62 points in their first two games. Regardless of the ATS result, these clubs should put plenty of points on the board.
It looks like we might get to the coveted key number of +7, but 6.5 still provides plenty of value. The Eagles were just -3 in the look-ahead lines last week but that number soared following their dominant showing against the Vikings on Monday night. The Commanders have shown improvement and, although their leaky defense is a concern, they should push this one to the wire.
Both defenses are getting, well, ground up. Each is allowing a frighteningly high average per rush through two weeks, the most in the league. Philly's ground attack, ranked second in the league for run yards per game after ruling the category last season, must be licking its chops. The Eagles' opener produced 73 points, while Commander games have accumulated 50 and 63 points. Washington QB Carson Wentz is not to be trifled with when his teams are an underdog; he is on a 5-1 ATS streak. His counterpart, Jalen Hurts, seems to have figured out the job.
The Eagles victory over the Vikings last weekend was more of a confidence builder for the defense more than anything. The coverage was excellent and they were able to get pressure when they needed to. Many will focus on Carson Wentz taking on his former team, but the real focus should be on whether or not this Commanders defense can slow down the explosive ball control offense of Philadelphia. I don't believe they can or will be able to do so.
