It’s no secret that the Bears were a disaster on offense in last week’s loss at Cleveland. At home in Week 4, they’ll have a great opportunity to regroup within the division against Detroit. Lions QB Jared Goff has been prone to poor statistical games against the Bears, which should aid Chicago's offense. Take the Bears.
The Bears will ride with rookie QB Justin Fields. The Lions are not quite popping champagne corks, but Fields’ first start last Sunday produced one of the sorriest offensive outputs in modern league history with 47 yards. His confidence surely is shaken, especially after he’s watched film of Detroit holding the Ravens to 16 points prior to Justin Tucker’s field goal from another zip code. Chicago has been blown out twice and, in its lone outright win, managed a mere 206 yards.
The Lions are 2-1 ATS, the Bears are 1-2 ATS. The Bears have the worst offense in the NFL (191 ypg) and they don’t know who will be the QB yet. Coach Matt Nagy’s passing game is averaging 90 ypg, also last. The Lions are moving the ball well and have shown fight. Take the points with the Lions.
The Bears performance against Cleveland last week was one of the worst we've seen in the NFL in a long time, and it's having too large of an impact on this line. Cleveland's defense deserves more credit than its getting, and Detroit's defense isn't nearly as good. With the Bears at home, I'm expecting a serious bounceback performance.
This is trending toward 2.5 so jumping in now on Detroit. The Lions' pass rush is no joke -- they had 25 pressures and four sacks vs. Baltimore last week -- and should thrive against the Bears' terrible offensive line. Detroit's last win came at Soldier Field. With this game likely coming down to the wire, I'll back the more cohesive side getting a full field goal.
The Bears have one of the best defenses in the NFL combined with one of the worst offenses. Chicago should be able to hold Detroit to 14 or fewer points. And the Bears will struggle to break 20 unless they get a defensive or special teams score. This game is going to be slow-paced too. Go Under.
As a Bears fan wanting a coaching change, I'd actually prefer they lose this game. I just don't see it happening. While I don't expect much from Matt Nagy's offense (again), the Top 10 Chicago defense will shut down Jared Goff & Co. for the most part. The Lions may have the worst group of wideouts in the NFL, and I don't expect Detroit to win a road game all season. Bears win by 3 to save Nagy's job for one more week.
