With DeSean Jackson back and my belief that the Eagles have finally realized they need to consistently run the ball, this has the makings for a get-right game for Philadelphia -- one it has so long needed. The Bears may hang for a half, but we have seen that defense alone is not enough for this team to keep up with opponents that have offensive talent.
The Bears have lost their last three games and Mitch Trubisky seems to struggle every week other than one game against the Redskins defense. But the Eagles are no bargain, either, despite Carson Wentz having good numbers (14 TD, 4 INT). One week you think they’re super at Green Bay and then they lay eggs at home against Detroit, and at Atlanta, Dallas and Minnesota. They're just 4-4. Inconsistent. The Bears' defense gives them a chance to win. I took the points to be safe.
The Eagles are clearly the better team in this matchup to me, so I think this is pretty nice value to take the favorite here. The Chicago offense is coming off its best performance of the year with 388 yards but still scored just 16 points against a bad Chargers team. The Eagles defense showed last week it can handle a limited offense, while their offense can extend drives in score as they rank highly on third downs and in the red zone. Their rediscovered run game should continue to have success against a Bears defense without Akiem Hicks. This could also be a mental letdown for Chicago after the gut-wrenching loss last week.
With prolific Philly receiver DeSean Jackson (abdomen) expected to return, the difference between these offenses is yawning. Chicago has resisted clamor over QB Mitchell Trubisky and will stick with him -- for now. A newly healthy Eagles secondary could give him fits. The Bears have scored in single-digits and the teens in six games, which largely explains their 2-6 against-the-spread record. Fly with Philly.
This line is more likely to hit 5 than it is to fall to 4. With DeSean Jackson tentatively expected to return, look for the Eagles to build off last week's breakout in Buffalo and cover versus the offensively-challenged Bears. Philly's ground game, led by Jordan Howard and Miles Sanders, should have success against a Chicago front missing run-stuffer Akiem Hicks. Lay it.
The Eagles' newfound run game helped them knock out the Buffalo Bills last week. This week against the Bears, they face a similar opponent, as the Bears have a great defense and a QB that's a non-factor in the passing game. In much better conditions than last week in Buffalo, expect the end result to be the same for Philadelphia.
