On Friday, the Twins travel to Cleveland after playing a doubleheader Thursday against the Angels. Expect the Indians to have the upper hand based on the Twins' travel factor and the Twins' having lost 12 of 16 games. Play the Indians.
Triston McKenize has really struggled with his command this season but he has shown flashes. This will also be just his third home start this season while he has pitched six games on the road. The Twins are expected to start Randy Dobnak who has seriously struggled out of the bullpen this season. The main difference is the Indians have the best bullpen in the league so they can withstand a starter coming out early, while the Twins have the fifth worst bullpen in the league. The Indians are 10-7 at home this season while the Twins are 7-13 on the road. The Indians are 6-4 in their last 10 while the Twins are 3-7 in their last 10. Take the value in the Indians at home.
The Indians can't hit a lick, but this game sets up incredibly well for them as they were off Thursday, while the Twins had to play a makeup doubleheader in Anaheim, burned through a chunk of their bullpen and then flew all night to get to Cleveland. That's tough. That Twins pitching staff is so taxed that they are calling up Randy Dobnak from Triple-A to start and give Kenta Maeda (groin) an extra day of rest. Dobnak has an 8.11 ERA in 14.1 big-league relief innings this year. Plus a few key Twins are injured (Nelson Cruz, Byron Buxton). Cleveland goes with Triston McKenzie (1-2, 5.79). Not much faith in him, but, again, the Twins' circumstances.
The Twins have played three games in two days and have also travelled from Minnesota to L.A. and now to Cleveland in the same time span. Meanwhile, the Indians had a day off yesterday and should be well rested and ready to open the series with a win tonight. With the Twins coming off a win in their night game and starter Randy Dobnak (0-3 8.16 ERA) to take the mound, I think this should be a no-problem win for the Indians. Expect the value of this line to decrease. Grab the moneyline before it moves.
