The Missouri Tigers must avoid a tricky home spot against 2-4 Auburn today. The Tigers may be 0-3 in the SEC, but they have been in close battles including a 27 to 21 loss to Oklahoma, and held with Georgia for the first three quarters. Off a bye week grab the points here with the Tigers.
Missouri comes in at 5-1 on the season, but it hasn't covered in three of its last four games and lost at Texas A&M two weeks ago. However, what I like about Mizzou is its defense that allows only 270 yards per game, good enough for 14th in the nation. Quarterback Brady Cook is leading the way for an offense that rushes for 187 yards per game and passes for 246 with minimal turnovers. The problem I have with Auburn quarterback Payton Thorne is that he doesn’t make the proper throws and has lost his last three. It’s a clunky offense. Missouri covers at home.
This feels light -- did open much higher -- as about the only advantage Auburn has is coming off a bye week, although Missouri didn't have to sweat much last Saturday in a win at UMass. Leading rusher Nate Noel didn't play but should return for this SEC matchup. Auburn has lost three straight, is tied for the worst TO margin in the FBS this season (-11) and doesn't have a quarterback as pressure mounts on Coach Hugh Freeze. Mizzou has won 11 straight vs. unranked opponents and scored at least 30 points in nine consecutive in those games.
This line feels incredibly fishy because Auburn can't not turn the ball over and Missouri's defense is legitimately good. Of all the times I've simulated this in my head, Missouri wins by at least a touchdown in each of them. In this battle of Tigers, Mizzou has scored 30 or more points in each of their last nine games vs unranked opponents, and has gone 7-2 ATS in that span. History will repeat itself once again. Missouri 34, Auburn 14.
