Evolution claims Playtech paid for spying and a fraudulent report
Evolution has asked the Superior Court of New Jersey to add Playtech to a defamation lawsuit that currently names private intelligence agency Black Cube and law firm Calcagni & Kanefsky LLP.
The Stockholm-based game developer alleges that Playtech hired Black Cube to investigate their company and produce a fraudulent report using "dirty tricks," like secretly taping interactions and interviews with former Evolution execs.

An excerpt from Evolution's official statement reads:
"It continues to be disappointing that a direct competitor would go to such extreme lengths to orchestrate a covert campaign designed to harm our business and avoid competing fairly in the marketplace.
"We are formally naming Playtech in our lawsuit because the facts are clear: Playtech hired Black Cube to create and publicize a defamatory report designed to harm Evolution, all while misleading the market and lying to investors about its role. For nearly four years, Playtech spent millions of dollars in legal fees to conceal its involvement in this smear campaign and avoid accountability."
Black Cube forced to reveal Platech's involvement
Founded in 2010 by former Israeli intelligence officers, Black Cube has taken center stage in this legal war. It gave a report to the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) in 2021 via Calcagni & Kanefsky.Â
The report detailed Evolution's alleged violations of New Jersey online casino and live casino gaming laws, including serving black markets. The DGE investigated the matter, eventually concluding that the report was "objectively baseless."
Evolution's statement outlines the means Black Cube used to obtain its info, including "secretly recorded conversations using false personas and disguises under false pretenses."
Playtech fires back

"Playtech stands by both the decision to commission the report at the centre of Evolution's claims, and the validity of its findings," the company's statement reads.
