Eagles NFL futures odds: Philadelphia won't go undefeated but still NFC favorite, has highest season win total
There will be no unbeaten team in the NFL this year.
Only two teams have run the table in the NFL regular season in the Super Bowl era: The 1972 Miami Dolphins and 2007 New England Patriots. That number will stay at two after the Philadelphia Eagles were stunned 32-21 as 11-point home favorites on Monday night by the Washington Commanders to fall to 8-1. However, oddsmakers still favor Philly as the NFC champion and give it the league's highest over/under win total.
It was the fourth-biggest upset victory by Washington via the spread in the Super Bowl era and the team's largest since 1995 when it was +17.5 and beat Dallas. There have been only four 8-0 or better teams in the Super Bowl era that lost at home to a team that entered the game with a losing record. Ron Rivera and Washington have now pulled off the last two such upsets, with the other coming against Pittsburgh in 2020. Rivera became the second coach in the Super Bowl era to beat two teams that were 8-0 or better, joining Don Coryell.
Philadelphia hadn't even trailed at the half before Monday and finished with four turnovers (after a total of three in the first eight games), including on the final play that was returned for a Commanders touchdown and the 32-21 win.
"I know guys got long faces, but me personally -- of course I want to win -- but now all this 17-0 s--- is over with. Now we're going to wake up -- how are you going to respond?" said Eagles receiver A.J. Brown, who had a potential catch bounce off his hands and turn into an interception. "This is a game that we all love to play and sometimes you get hit in the mouth. How do you respond? ... I hope we get up and start fighting back and I feel like we will."
At DraftKings, the Eagles are still -300 favorites to win the NFC East and +250 leaders in the NFC, and have an over/under win total of 13.5 (it was 14.5 entering Monday) – no other team is higher than 12.5 (Minnesota, Kansas City and Buffalo). While the Vikings are also 8-1, Philly owns the head-to-head tiebreaker thanks to a 24-7 home win against Minnesota in Week 2.
Jalen Hurts threw for 175 yards, two TDs and a pick on Monday and rushed for a score, but has moved from a second-favorite to +600 fourth favorite to win NFL MVP behind Patrick Mahomes (+120), Josh Allen (+500) and Tua Tagovailoa (+500).
