With WR Brandin Cooks, their primary pass-catcher, bailing from the game because of a contract/trade dispute with the club, the Texans will stay grounded on offense more than usual. The Eagles, too, might lean on the run if they have built a safe lead in the second half. The result could be a moving clock. Houston engages in frequent low-scoring games, with finals of 13-6, 16-9 and 17-10 last Sunday among them. Take the Under.
Houston has looked quite putrid offensively at times this season as QB Davis Mills has regressed in Year 2 and he has so little around him, although rookie running back Dameon Pierce has been a nice surprise. One starting wideout, Nico Collins, is out tonight, and the other, Brandin Cooks, is iffy because he's still ticked off that he wasn't traded and has a supposed injury. Presuming the Texans are held to 14 points or fewer (which I think is a fair assumption), can they hold the Eagles to 31? I think so even though Houston stinks against the run. We could see a lot of time-consuming Eagles drives. What a fun night for Philly fans with the World Series as well.
After their initial drive last Sunday vs. Tennessee went 28 yards and ended in an interception, the Texans mustered a total of 23 yards on their next 10 drives. That's not a misprint. Houston got a garbage-time drive to make the final score respectable. The Titans ran all over Houston, and the Eagles can follow that exact script. Houston gives up an NFL-high 186 rushing yards per game, 30 more than the next-worst team (Chicago). The Texans won't have No. 2 wideout Nico Collins (groin) again and Brandin Cooks is on the verge of being traded. This game is a homecoming for Jalen Hurts, so this Philly juggernaut will want to put on a show. Lay the lumber.
After their dismantling of Steelers rookie QB Kenny Pickett, the Eagles defense gets to feast on another young QB who has a bit of an interception issue in Davis Mills. What we also saw last week from the Houston Texans was an inability to stop the run, as Titans RB Derrick Henry ran for more than 200 yards in a win. While the Eagles don't have a player like Derrick Henry on their roster, they do have one of the more dominant run games in the NFL and should be able to run to Cover Town against the lowly Texans.
