Was going to pass if the Chiefs were without Tyreek Hill, but he's playing. I don't really think the loss of Clyde Edwards-Helaire matters much. I simply think Patrick Mahomes is going to torch that shockingly awful WFT defense and that Taylor Heinicke can't keep up. Kansas City is 5-2 ATS in its past seven after a loss.
Given the Chiefs struggles, I spent time looking for reasons to take Washington under a touchdown here, and I couldn't find any. With Taylor Heinicke still starting and the Washington defense nothing too special, allowing totals in the 30s to teams like the Giants and Falcons -- plus a 43 spot to the Bills -- this seems like a get-right spot for Kansas City. The Football Team is not going to be able to contain Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce like Buffalo, and even if it does get pressure on Patrick Mahomes, he thrives on the move. It's been tough to back the Chiefs this year, and this may be a spot where my opinion on the team's future changes, but this could be a double-digit road win.
After losing to the Bills last week, the Chiefs are 2-3 and getting desperate. They need to get better in a hurry, and I think that happens this week against an underperforming Washington defense that's giving up 31.0 points per game, second most in the NFL.
The Chiefs reached a low they hadn't hit with Patrick Mahomes under center. On a nationally televised prime-time game, Kansas City was blown out 38-20 by Buffalo at home. It's the wake-up call the Chiefs need to get back to being a serious contender in the AFC. Grab Kansas City to finally play to the level we expect against Washington.
Both teams have terrible defenses, but the Football Team's offense isn't good enough to keep up here. Patrick Mahomes, Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce all should explode in this spot. Lay the points.
I think we're all guilty of overreacting to Kansas City's struggles early this season, particularly Patrick Mahomes. While the Chiefs defense has been terrible, facing an offense led by Taylor Heinicke should help a little. Plus, Washington's defense puts a lot of pressure on opposing QBs, and that's when Patrick Mahomes has struggled this season.
