Normally I like betting against rookie QBs in their debuts, but I don't trust the Lions enough to lay a touchdown with them. So I'm going with the Under as I believe the Jets will have a hard time scoring points, and at least this way I don't have to rely on the Lions to not screw up in their first game with a new coaching staff.

The Jets are 2-6 ATS in their last eight road games and rookie Sam Darnold has to make his rookie debut on the road. I'm looking for an excitable Lions squad to score early and often against a Jets unit that was underrated last season. But it's the Jets' expected quarterback play that makes this story. Darnold will be good eventually, but he will take his lumps Monday. The Lions win and cover.

Rookie QB. Youngest Week One starter at the position ever. On the road, in a noisy dome. Need we say more? Sam Darnold might be the Jets’ savior, but save your hard-earned money for later if you buy into his billing. What’s more, top returning WR Jermaine Kearse (abdomen) is iffy. Detroit is the picture of health, and new Lions coach Matt Patricia knows the Jets inside-and-out. He game-planned against them twice per season during a dozen years as an assistant with New England. The Lions are tough as home favorites, while the Jets covered just twice on the road in 2017.

The Jets will go into the season with the youngest QB in the league in Sam Darnold. Matt Patricia will be coaching his first game as a head coach with the Lions. So there will be a lot of unknowns in this game, which should make for an interesting outcome. I think what's been slept on regarding the Jets is how deep they are at the skill positions on offense and how good they'll be defensively this year. The Lions still have some questions regarding their running game, and that'll be the reason why the Jets have a shot to steal this one.
