After losing last night despite racking up seven hits, I'm backing the Braves to score more than 4.5 runs tonight in Minnesota and taking the -1.5 spread as well for 0.5 unit. Zebby Matthews has been lit up by lefties to the tune of a near .290 batting average, with 68 hits, 13 home runs and 27 walks across 59 innings. He's facing a lineup that stacks five lefties within the first six batters, with Matt Olson, Drake Baldwin, Ozzie Albies and Michael Harris all surrounding righty, Ronald Acuna Jr. With the bullpen for Minnesota still a bottom-five rank, I'm willing to bet Atlanta drives some runners home tonight. Tyler Mahle has been magnificent since coming to Atlanta, allowing just one run across 12 innings.
FanDuel. Tyler Mahle looks like a different pitcher since coming over to the Braves - in his two starts he’s thrown 12 innings, giving up seven hits and one run, while striking out 16. The Braves have had him rely mostly on his fastball and splitter, while lowering his arm angle on the latter, resulting in eight of his punch-outs. Even in a tougher than average matchup against the Twins, I like this spot for the revamped Mahle. He should see more lefties, which is his much better split (27% K%).

When Matthews leaves, the Twins turn to a bullpen that has thrown 210 pitches in the last five days and is ranked 25th in ERA. Tyler Mahle, on the other hand, has a stronger record with a 3.92 expected ERA, a 105 Stuff+ rating, and a 102 Location+ index. Atlanta has a clear advantage, with a +14 Outs Above Average compared to Minnesota’s -4. The Twins are just 6-15 in the second game of a series after winning the first.
I'm backing Atlanta's new acquisition, pitcher Tyler Mahle, who has given up only one run in 12 innings since being acquired in early-August. Meanwhile, Minnesota's Zebby Matthews posted a 7.66 ERA in July and a 6.30 ERA thus far in August. With the wind blowing out to right field, look for the Braves left handed power hitters (Matt Olson, Drake Baldwin, Michael Harris, Ozzie Albies) to crush the homer-prone Matthews (18 home runs allowed in 91 innings). I think Atlanta bounces back Tuesday night on the road.
