This just popped because Cleveland's best hitter, Jose Ramirez, is out. He just returned from the IL. The Indians -- it's going to take me years to say Guardians -- also blew out the pen in Thursday's home loss to the Twins. I have a side get on the Rays in Discord which some of you may know about. A win here clinches at worst a push on that.
Shane McClanahan has been nearly unhittable at home, 6-1 with a 1.88 ERA in eight starts, with a sub-.200 average allowed and sub-1.00 WHIP. The Guardians’ offense isn’t good all season, its dead-last over the last two months vs. LHPs and managed one run yesterday in an 11-inning game vs. the Twins. Guardians LHP Joey Cantillo is on a roll as well, but Tampa’s OPS at home (.873) is nearly 200 points higher than Cleveland’s road split, and its OPS vs. left-handers since the break is nearly 150 points higher.

FanDuel. Shane McClanahan is under this line in 13/18 starts this season. Making his first start on four days rest since mid-June, this reads as a solid opportunity for the Rays to manage their ace’s workload, especially with the bullpen in great shape. McClanahan is up 91 innings this season after not pitching for 2+ years - with the Rays firmly in the playoff picture, I do envision load management for the southpaw down the stretch. The Guardians, who see the second most pitches per plate appearance, are a good opponent to drive up McClanahan’s pitch count.

Cleveland's offense has been league worst against southpaws since the start of June and pretty bad all year, but they did walk seven times today despite just three hits. They see a ton of pitches and even if they don't make the opposing pitcher pay for mistakes many times, the Guardians do at least make them work and get the benefit of Jose Ramirez being healthy again. Shane McClanahan completed 6+ innings in three starts prior to the All-Star break, but just five innings last time, while allowing 5 ER, 3 walks and a hit batter. He returns here on normal rest for the first time after the break, so take under 16.5 outs. I would hold off on 15.5 unless you're getting plus money.
