Jumping in here with my buddy Propstarz, after hearing his outstanding analysis just now on CBS Sports HQ on why Paul Blackburn should be due for some regression. I also like backing the A's offense and Brent Rooker in this spot, as right handed batters have hit better than .280 against Blackburn, while lefties have hit a paltry .197 on the year. Rooker over 1.5 HRRBI is a play for me, hitting near the top of the order and priced at just -115, I can't pass that up!
Paul Blackburn faces his former team for the first time. Since being acquired by the Mets, he’s allowed two runs in 12 innings. He now faces an Oakland team that has won three of their last four but still are only hitting .236 with a .676 OPS over the last seven days. The Mets played well in Colorado, but their bats let them down against the Mariners, scoring one run while losing three straight. Joe Boyle has been recalled from AAA, making his fourth road start of the season, he’s pitched well besides allowing seven runs to Cleveland.

Paul Blackburn has pitched well since joining the Mets at the trade deadline, however I believe this is a good spot to fade him against his former club. First and foremost this is a great price point. I would also argue that Blackburn is pitching above expectations and is a regression candidate considering his expected ERA is nearly 1 run higher than his actual ERA. I would also argue this is a more difficult matchup than it may appear at first glance as Oakland possesses the 4th highest OPS since July 1st.
Will play this early for Tuesday as well as I also think this is only going up a fair amount. The Mets looked horrific this weekend offensively in Seattle but the one thing the Mariners can do is pitch. Looks to be a bullpen day for the A's starting with Joe Boyle (2-5, 7.16 ERA). Oakland is playing quite well since the break but this feels like such an important game for New York off that disappointing road trip. Mets starter Paul Blackburn has been terrific in two outings since being acquired from Oakland; obviously this will mean a bit more for him.
