Monday, the Miami Marlins are the road favorite against the Cincinnati Reds. Starting pitcher Eury Perez made his debut against Cincinnati on May 12th, so should have an upper hand seeing them for a second time. Additionally, the Reds are on a six-game losing streak where they have lost by an average of 5.5 runs per game. Take the Marlins as the Reds losing streak builds to seven.
Slumping teams collide in Cincinnati, and the Marlins are resting MLB batting leader Luis Arraez (.375). However, Miami still has several dangerous hitters versus left-handed pitching, including Jorge Soler, Josh Bell, Jake Burger and Bryan De La Cruz, so Brandon Williamson could struggle. Miami phenom Eury Perez won't go deep, but I like him to get his floundering team off to a strong start. Cincinnati's already-thin bullpen likely won't have lefty Alex Young (2.74 ERA) available; he left Sunday's loss to Washington with back spasms.
The Reds have lost six straight and Marlins have lost four straight while both offenses have been struggling. The Marlins and Reds have both scored just 12 runs in their previous four games. Eury Perez and his 2.36 ERA will be on the mound for Miami while Brandon Williamson will take the bump for Cincinnati. Williamson has been pitching well recently and with both of these offenses struggling, I think this is a good spot to fade a hefty total.
Miami's offensive woes continued on Sunday and now former All-Star infielder Jazz Chisholm may be hurt again. We get why the Marlins are favored with excellent rookie Eury Perez (5-3, 2.36 ERA) returning to the Show, but his ERA away is more than three runs higher than in south Florida. Cincinnati is really struggling as well, but Brandon Williamson has settled in nicely with a 3.60 ERA and .221 opponents' batting average in his past six. Both clubs have played a TON of one-run games.
