Texas upset the Rays and Shane McClanahan without its best possible lineup on Monday (we cashed), but all the guys are in there tonight against Tampa Bay's Taj Bradley, who appears to have hit the rookie wall with three straight losses and having allowed 16 runs over 12.1 innings in that span. That doesn't even include Bradley being knocked around at home by Texas on June 10. I keep waiting for Nate Eovaldi (10-3, 2.83) to come a little bit back to earth but he largely hasn't yet for the Rangers.
Yesterday as road favorites the Tampa Bay Rays lost in heart breaking fashion in the ninth inning to the Texas Rangers. Now they are in a rare spot as an underdog, as they are just 3 and 9 over their last twelve games. Look for another bullpen game but for the Rays to find a way to deliver. Grab Tampa.
The Rays have hit a rough patch, losing seven of their last 10 games. Things might not get any better for them with Taj Bradley set to start this matchup. Over his last six starts, he has a 7.86 ERA and a 1.67 WHIP. That included an outing against the Rangers in which he gave up five runs (four earned) over 3 2/3 innings. Starting for the Rangers will be Nathan Eovaldi, who has a 0.91 WHIP at home. Add that to the Rangers having a 31-18 record in Texas and I like them to deal the Rays another loss.
The Rays and Rangers have cooled off recently after both getting off to torrid starts. The Rangers are 6-4 over their last 10, meanwhile the Rays are 3-7 and simply do not look like the same team that dominated the first half of the season. Rookie Taj Bradley has struggled over his previous three starts and has an ERA over 10.0 during that span. He faced the Rangers earlier this season and gave up 4 ER and lasted onyl 3.2 innings. Nathan Eovaldi will start for Texas and the veteran righty is having the best season of his 12 year career. I think the Rangers will provide plenty of run support for Eovaldi at home against a Rays team that is reeling.
