The Tigers have an advantage at quarterback where Cade Klubnik remains one of the top players in the country. Clemson is a veteran team that still has a trip to the CFP well within in its sights. I like GT, and Haynes King is scrappy, but Clemson is at least a TD better here.
Clemson has won the last nine meetings over Georgia Tech, and they covered eight of them. This is the lowest point spread that they've had since 2014, when Georgia Tech last won 28-6. Clemson's problem is that their offensive line hasn't been doing a good job, and the funny thing is that they've got four of their five offensive linemen returning from last year, who were considered a strength. They're better than that, and they know it. Clemson returns 14 starters from last year, and they haven't covered any of their two games. Buy low, sell high. Cade Klubnik and that offensive line figure things out and win this game, which is at a bargain price now because of their play this season. Clemson.
We are going to "buy the dip" on Clemson amid this extremely favorable price. The Tigers, perhaps still in a fog from their 17-10 loss to LSU, fell behind 16-0 to a mediocre Troy team last week before coming alive in the second half. Live look-ahead lines for this game originally had Clemson at -9.5 and now we're down to -3 with a money line also diced in half. Georgia Tech is a tough out at home, especially behind rugged QB Haynes King, but King is banged up and the Tigers are on a 5-1 ATS run in this series. Clemson has a favorable schedule the rest of the way and needs to win this one to start salvaging its season.
I just can't quit Clemson. I picked them to win the National Championship and then they burned me in Week 1. Another loss here would be crushing and while Georgia Tech will hang tough, this line is still way too low for a veteran team who I believe will get better as the season goes along. Clemson 28, Georgia Tech 20.
The spread is in free-fall after Clemson’s clumsy start to the schedule and the likelihood that Tech QB Haynes King, who was held out last week, is good to go. The Tigers lost to LSU, then spotted Troy a 16-point head start before rallying. Still, this was the fourth-ranked team in the preseason, with NFL prospects sprinkled around the roster, and the line has sunk too far. Tech soundly beat Colorado, then enjoyed a walkover against Gardner-Webb. The Yellow Jackets’ run-first approach could be negated by a stout rush defense. While coach Brent Key is noted for overseeing upsets, Tech has stumbled nine times in a row versus Clemson, and King threw for four picks in one of them.
Georgia Tech coach Brent Key will have his guys ready to play vs any opponent, on any given Saturday. Also in this matchup, the Yellow Jackets have the better QB in Haynes King. He's a legit plus-one in the run game, and has the 'never say die' attitude that the entire team embodies. They understand the severity of this game vs a Clemson offense that's struggling.
