Louisville has been on a nice little run since the return of Malik Cunningham, but keeping up with Wake Forest is a different animal. The Cardinals have yet to face a challenge like Sam Hartman, and unless Cunningham matches him game-breaking play for game-breaking play over the full 60 minutes, the Demon Deacons should be able to pull this out by more than a field goal. This is a pick leaning on Wake Forest's consistency and Dave Clawson's coaching edge against Scott Satterfield.
Wake Forest's offense, led by QB Sam Hartman, is prolific. The Demon Deacons are scoring 41 points per game against FBS opponents, good for 8th nationally. That puts a lot of pressure on Louisville to keep up. QB Malik Cunningham and the Cardinals will do so for a while, but in the end, it won't be enough.
Wake Forest coach Dave Clawson made a point this week to talk about how disrespected his QB Sam Hartman is at the national level. He went as far as pointing out how Hartman was second-team All-ACC last year, but was considered the fifth-best QB in the conference at the start of this year. Now, I have no idea who considered Hartman the fifth-best QB in the ACC, but you can bet Louisville's Malik Cunningham is one of the four Clawson believes was considered better than his guy. Look for Wake, and Hartman, to make a statement Saturday.
