It's clear that North Carolina has serious defensive deficiencies, but it also has a tremendous offense and quarterback in Drake Maye that can never be counted out. All of Pittsburgh's wins this season have come against sub-.500 teams, and its only road win is against Western Michigan. There won't be enough big plays for the Panthers to edge the Tar Heels in this home spot for UNC.
I'm not sold on the Heels being a top 20 team, but I think they're better than Pitt by more than a field goal. The Panthers, led by quarterback Kedon Slovis, have struggled to throw the ball; they've failed to throw for more than 189 yards in four of their past five games. They don't have the firepower to take advantage of North Carolina's biggest weakness, pass defense. Also, Pitt's defense has forced just 10 turnovers this season, which ranks 10th in the ACC. I'm on the Heels.
Pittsburgh has looked really bad twice in ACC play, including last week at Louisville -- QB Kedon Slovis has largely been a disappointment. Led by QB Drake Maye, the Heels are again one of the nation's top offenses. In red zone trips, Maye has gone 24-of-36 for 182 yards and 12 TDs to go along with three rushing TDs.
