Clearly the NCAA Tournament bubble game of the day (see news feed). Indiana absolutely has to have this, while Michigan will be sweating Selection Sunday with a loss. Figured I should have taken this last night when it was a bit lower, but with Hunter Dickinson back the Wolverines should win. He dominated in Bloomington on Jan. 23 when UM won comfortably in the lone meeting of the season between the schools. Yeah, IU will have a bit of a fan advantage in Indianapolis, but the game is so early and on a Thursday it's not like it will be that crazy. Is it a good thing that Michigan gets back Coach Juwan Howard? The team arguably played better under Phil Martelli.
While Juwan Howard's return to the sideline will dominate the headlines, my handicapping concern is more closely tied to the return of Michigan big man Hunter Dickinson. After missing the regular season finale with an illness, Dickinson is expected to be back and that's bad news for Indiana. In the only meeting this season Dickinson had 25 points and 9 rebounds and the Wolverines offense absolutely carved up Indiana’s defense in Bloomington to the tune of 1.21 points per possession. A similar performance would be tough for Indiana to handle considering the Hoosiers are 3-6 against the spread in their last 9 games and the offense has sputtered down the stretch with less than 70 points in 8 of its last 10 games.
Michigan enjoys facing Indiana, as the Wolverines have won and covered the past nine meetings. That includes an 80-62 beatdown at Assembly Hall this season. The Hoosiers run their offense through the post but that's where Michigan is strongest, with Hunter Dickinson and Moussa Diabate. In Juwan Howard's return, I like the Wolverines to cover this small number.
