For just over four years, legal online casinos in Ontario have continued to grow into a thriving and dominant industry. Look no further than May as an example of that fact, a month in which licensed iGaming operators combined for over CAD$8 billion in wagers and more than $326 million in revenue to set an all-time revenue record for the month.

Ontario online casinos fuel landmark revenue month in May

Since launching in April 2022, the real money online casino Canada market in Ontario has stood as the only provincial industry with regulated mobile casino apps. In the four years since, the market has set countless records.

And Ontario continues to set them.

In May, regulated online casino gambling in Ontario accepted some $8.37 billion in bets and generated $326.4 million in gross gaming revenue, setting the provincial record for the largest revenue total in the month of May.

Overall, legal iGaming in Ontario clocked in at $9.48 billion in May wagers, with online casinos accounting for 88% of the total handle. The bottom line iGaming handle reflected a 17% year-over-year increase and stands as the fourth-highest monthly total since the industry launched four years ago. March still holds the top spot with $9.59 billion.

In terms of revenue, with real money online casinos leading the way, iGaming in Ontario saw $413.1 million in gross gaming revenue for the second-highest monthly total reported in the province, falling shy of the record $425.6 million generated in December 2025.

Alberta online casinos soon to join Ontario market

With a combined 80 licensed online casino sites, the Ontario landscape is certainly a vast one, featuring many of North America's top brands such as BetMGM Casino, DraftKings Casino and FanDuel Casino.

So it should come as no surprise that the legal online casino market in Ontario has established itself as the driving force behind regulated online gambling in the province.

To showcase that, a joint study from iGaming Ontario and the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario showed that over 91% of online gamblers in Ontario play exclusively at licensed sites in the province. For perspective, in late 2025, a similar study reported 83.7% of players stuck to legal online casinos in Ontario.

The province has long stood as the lone jurisdiction in Canada with legal online gambling. That will soon change, however, as the Alberta online casino industry expects to roll out the first casino sites and apps on July 13.
