Never before has the legal online casino industry in the U.S. started a calendar year with as much gusto as in 2026, as regulated operators surpassed $3 billion over the first three months of the year. It marks the first time the legal online casino landscape has seen a total that high in the first quarter, plus it represents a significant 20% year-over-year increase compared with Q1 2025.

US online casinos set Q1 record after landmark March

As it stands, the country features seven states with legal iGaming, with the Maine online casino industry expected to join the mix later in 2026.

This list of states with real money online casino operators includes:

  • Connecticut
  • Delaware
  • Michigan
  • New Jersey
  • Pennsylvania
  • Rhode Island
  • West Virginia

The first quarter of 2026 closed with a record-setting March, which saw $1.06 billion in revenue, resulting in more than $287 million in taxes. That overall revenue total reflects a 17% spike compared with March 2025 and makes it the third time in four months that the bottom line topped $1 billion.

And it all happened while legal sports betting volume continued to decline.

Pennsylvania leads the way for real money online casino states

One of the major driving forces behind the record-setting first quarter is the market consisting of Pennsylvania online casinos. Long established as the cornerstone of the regulated industry of the best mobile casinos, the Keystone State generated nearly $331 million in revenue in March alone, capping a $948 million Q1 in Pennsylvania.

Just behind in terms of March revenue was the Michigan online casino market, which reported some $322 million to reflect a 24% growth from 2025. There, FanDuel Casino overtook BetMGM Casino as the industry leader, continuing a back-and-forth trend between the two brands.

The story there, however, surrounds the market share drop of DraftKings Casino while Fanatics Casino continues to climb into potential contention as a state power just behind Hard Rock Bet Casino. All told, Michigan online casinos finished Q1 with $893 million in revenue for the state's best quarter to date.

Meanwhile, New Jersey online casinos – some 13 years into their existence – just missed setting a March revenue record with more than $272 million, falling a tad shy of the $273 million-plus the state generated in December. Even at 13 years old, the industry notched a 136th straight month of double-digit percentage annual growth in that regard.

All in all, NJ online casinos combined for $783 million in Q1 revenue, thanks in large part to FanDuel Casino, which accounted for nearly a quarter of the market in March. You can get your own FanDuel Casino promo code if you live in a legal state.
