Baker Mayfield has a nice history against Brian Flores, but this Vikings defense may be unstoppable, especially against a Bucs offensive line that has struggled mightily this season. Speaking of unstoppable, how exactly is Tampa Bay going to deal with Justin Jefferson out wide? The only way to slow down Jefferson will be getting to the quarterback, but Kyler Murray is back, which should give the Vikings opportunities to avoid pressure and extend plays. Tampa Bay is on an 0-11 ATS streak, and Minnesota should be able to bother Mayfield enough to prevail.
I like the mentality of the Vikings defense coming into this season. Regardless of what the offensive side of the ball will look like or play like on game day, you know the Vikings defense will be the consistent one of the team. I didn't like how the Bucs looked vs the Browns defensive line and face an even more difficult matchup in this one.
Tampa Bay loves to blitz, with the 3rd-highest blitz% at 40.3%. Kyler Murray cleared this rushing line in all 5 games he played in and had 9 yards on 2 carries in his first game on one drive before getting hurt Joe Burrow and Deshaun Watson went for 20 and 22 rush yards against the Bucs in first two games.
The Bucs' problems are not a result of Bucky Irving, who has been highly efficient through two games. If anything, he deserves the ball more. He's averaging 5.4 yards per carry. While Minnesota beat Chicago 9-3 last Sunday, the Vikings allowed 134 rushing yards. Kyle Monangai averaged 4.7 yards per carry in that loss. Facing Brian Flores' blitz-heavy scheme, look for the Bucs to feature Irving.
FanDuel. Coming off a rain soaked game in which the Vikings hardly had the ball and were actively trying not to pass when they did, I like this as a bounceback game for Justin Jefferson. The big variable is Kyler Murray, but I really don’t think we need him to be anything more than average. Dating back to last season, Jefferson cleared this line in 6/7 Carson Wentz games, with last week as the lone miss. It was the likes of JJ McCarthy and Max Brosmer that really brought Jefferson’s production down. The Bucs are stingy against the run, and their secondary is exploitable on the outside - I’m banking on competent QB play from Kyler. I’d bet this to over 73.5.
Kyler Murray is expected to return for the Vikings in this game, but QBs in their first game after sitting with a concussion tend to struggle. The game should be on his shoulders with Aaron Jones up against this strong run defense, and I think the Bucs defense comes out on top in the matchup. New Bucs OC Zac Robinson faced Brian Flores and the Vikes in Week 2 last year with the Falcons and had his team in scoring range seven times, earning five FGs and one TD, plus a lost fumble. With a strong O-line to protect Baker Mayfield against the rush, I can see the Bucs winning this game more often than not.
