Let's not overreact to the Rams' offensive explosion against Denver last Sunday. The Broncos were on the verge of collapse. It's back to earth for the Rams' offense against the hottest defense in the league, which has limited its last three foes to 17 or fewer points. Now they get back pass rusher extraordinaire Joey Bosa, who won't be his usual self on a snap count but will add to the Rams' worries. As the Chargers regain their health, the Rams remain torn up by injuries. They have yet to cover against teams with winning records; the Chargers are the sixth such team they face.
The Chargers have won three straight, and two of the victories were by six or more points. They’re playing at their best, are somewhat healthy and get back Joey Bosa on the edge. The defense has been consistent and the Under has hit in their last four contests. QB Baker Mayfield has looked sharp as the Rams' starter, and they’ll be playing on their home field as visitors, but I like the Chargers to cover. This is their time to shine and prepare for the playoffs.

The Rams are coming off a thrashing of the Broncos where Akers rolled up 118 rushing yards. But it's the only time this year he's topped 70 rushing yards even though he's had 10+ carries in eight games. He's also not going to enjoy a similar game script very often; the Rams nearly matched their point total from the previous three games combined. On the surface the Chargers look like a great matchup for Akers, but their defense has held three straight opponents under 300 yards after managing that feat just once previously. Two of those three teams didn't have a 70-yard rusher, and the other was Derrick Henry. I'll back Akers to return to his sub-70 yard performances in this one.
