The Bears offense took a hit when Khalil Herbert was placed on the IR, but I'm not too worried about the loss with how well Justin Fields is running the ball. He'll have Cole Kmet to throw to after the tight end was cleared from a hip injury, and the Bears should have success in the passing game against an awful Falcons defense, even if A.J. Terrell is able to play. The Bears defense can't stop anyone right now, so in a controlled environment this game is primed to be a shootout.
Maybe Chicago can finally get both units on the same page. The offense has produced 29, 30 and 32 points the past three weeks -- all outright defeats. The defense, stellar in September, remains ranked in the league's upper half despite three duds. The Falcons opened with six consecutive ATS wins but have fluttered back to earth with four Ls in a row. They have permitted more yards per game than all but one team. Chicago's Justin Fields wins the QB comparison with his yards-gobbling legs and avoidance of interceptions (three in the last seven games).
The Bears became the first team since at least 1940 to rush for at least 230 yards in five straight games, and the last time a team came close to rushing for 200 yards in five straight was the 2018 Ravens led by rookie Lamar Jackson. Fields is starting to have that same feel with his ability to make plays, and that should continue against a woeful Atlanta defense that can't defend the pass or get sacks. The Falcons will likely be able to sustain drives as well against a terrible Bears defense, but their offense was expected to be better the last two weeks as well before underperforming. I'll back the offense with the star in the making catching a field goal.
The Bears are clicking offensively and should have another big day in Atlanta -- it's a homecoming for Justin Fields, who played high school football in the metro area -- but they might not be as efficient with Khalil Herbert (NFL-best 6.0 yards per carry) going on IR. Marcus Mariota needs a win and a solid performance to keep his starting job, and I think he gets it against the NFL's worst defense. That's what Chicago has become since tradiing Roquan Smith and Robert Quinn. The Falcons, who are one game out of the NFC South lead, had 10 days to prepare. Look for a huge day from Atlanta's running attack as the Falcons cover.
