This line has fallen sharply from a touchdown earlier in the week to now just over a field goal, and I suspect it may close at -4 prior to kickoff. I'm not sure why suddenly the Rams should be in let-down at mode just because they thrashed the Bucs last week, but some seem to believe that. I see an L.A. team under Sean McVay that is 7-1 ATS against the Cardinals over the last four seasons -- and this Rams team is far better than most of those, particularly with Matthew Stafford under center. There is some concern about a backdoor cover due to Kyler Murray's explosiveness, but I'll take that risk to get the Rams at a discounted price.
Sometimes a coach just has another team's number and that is the story here between the Rams and Cardinals. Sean McVay is 8-0 SU and 7-0-1 ATS vs. Arizona...and he's never had a team this good either. In four of the past six matchups between these two, Arizona has been held to fewer than 10 points. Taking the Rams and not looking back.
Upset fever has swept the public, which has hammered down this line by two points. Though the Cardinals are perfect straight-up, they lucked out at Minnesota on a game-ending shanked field goal and had the blahs for much of the win at Jacksonville. They have already played twice in the eastern time zone and must hit the road again. QB Kyler Murray has thrived against lesser defenses. Now he must find the code to negate pass rusher supreme Aaron Donald and superb cover man Jalen Ramsey. Rams coach Sean McVay's record versus ‘Zona is spotless: 8-0.
This spread has risen to 6 at some books, so let's hit it now. We might worry about a Rams letdown off beating the Bucs last week if this wasn't for first place in the NFC West. Arizona has played rather sloppy at times and Kyler Murray has at least one interception in each game -- he hasn't seen a defense nearly as good as the Rams' yet. L.A. has won eight straight in this series with seven of those by at least 10 points. Not about to predict a double-digit win here, but by a TD sounds about right. The Cards have failed to cover their past five vs. teams with a winning record and could be very thin on the offensive line due to injury.
